International Center<br />

The purpose <strong>of</strong> the International Center is to promote<br />
international education and cultural exchange by (1) supporting<br />
international students, faculty, staff, and students<br />
studying abroad, (2) assisting in the compliance <strong>of</strong> immigration<br />
and other related regulations, (3) providing study<br />
abroad advising for students interested in studying in another<br />
country, and (4) providing services and resources<br />
to the IIT community. These services include: individual<br />
and group orientations to the University and community;<br />
assistance with document preparation for employment and<br />
other related non-immigrant benefits; workshops for faculty,<br />
staff, and students on issues affecting international<br />
students and scholars; cross-cultural activities and programs<br />
that promote intercultural perspectives and address<br />
adjustment issues; study abroad advising for students interested<br />
in studying in another country.<br />
All international students, scholars, and faculty are required<br />
to report to the International Center immediately<br />
upon arrival.<br />
Leadership Academy<br />

The Leadership Academy is an integral component <strong>of</strong> IIT’s<br />
interpr<strong>of</strong>essional approach to undergraduate education. Its<br />
objectives are to create and implement an effective leadership<br />
development curriculum for IIT undergraduate students,<br />
to identify and support students with exceptional<br />
leadership potential, and to evaluate leadership development<br />
outcomes at individual and program levels. Currently,<br />
the academy <strong>of</strong>fers scholarships and mentors to the<br />
scholarship recipients. It also <strong>of</strong>fers the Sophomore Leadership<br />
Retreat, a series <strong>of</strong> engaging leadership development<br />
seminars, which any IIT full-time undergraduate student<br />
can attend and earn points toward a certificate in leadership<br />
studies.<br />

IIT’s libraries include Paul V. Galvin Library; the Center<br />
for the Study <strong>of</strong> Ethics in the Pr<strong>of</strong>essions (Main Campus);<br />
the Graham Resource Center (Main Campus); the<br />
Louis W. Biegler Library (Rice Campus); the Downtown<br />
Campus Library, serving the Chicago-Kent College <strong>of</strong> Law<br />
and the Stuart School <strong>of</strong> Business; the <strong>Institute</strong> for Food<br />
Safety and Health Library (M<strong>of</strong>fett Campus); and the IIT<br />
Archives (Main Campus).<br />
Paul V. Galvin Library<br />

As the University’s central library, Paul V. Galvin Library<br />
combines cutting-edge information technology with traditional<br />
library services. The library’s holdings include<br />
more than 1.2 million volumes, including books, journals,<br />
government publications, and micr<strong>of</strong>orms. Digital services<br />
provide 24-hour internet access to more than 100 online<br />
databases indexing millions <strong>of</strong> journal articles; approximately<br />
40,000 full-text online journals; electronic course<br />
reserves; and I-Share, a statewide resource sharing system<br />
<strong>of</strong> 76 academic libraries. Galvin Library also provides<br />
web-based delivery <strong>of</strong> a variety <strong>of</strong> materials, including<br />
documents requested via interlibrary loan. The library’s<br />
instruction program serves the IIT community by teaching<br />
skills needed to locate, retrieve, and evaluate information.<br />
Library instructors teach at all levels from introductory<br />
to advanced and cover a broad range <strong>of</strong> all types <strong>of</strong> information<br />
and retrieval techniques. Library workshops are<br />
<strong>of</strong>fered regularly throughout a semester or can be specifically<br />
tailored for a course or program by library subject<br />
specialists.<br />
