Implementing cost efficient check-in and boarding
Without any doubt, airports play an important role in offering the
convenience of bar coded boarding passes to passengers. To drive the
implementation of BCBP at airports, IATA contacted airports whose
CUTE contracts expire before 01 July 2008 to educate and challenge
them on the importance of BCBP printing and reading capability. IATA
learned that:
● Of the 52 airports identified with contracts expiring before 01
July 08, 96% of them are requesting BCBP capable equipment
●
44% of those airports are requesting BCBP capable equipment
which will not support mag stripe boarding documents
Based on the above, IATA will engage those airports not requesting for
BCBP capable equipment. IATA will also share the equipment

eplacement information with airlines so that they can extend their
BCBP offering to new locations. Find out the details here...
Driving BCBP implementation
As IATA drives the industry and support airlines to become BCBP
capable by end of 2008, IATA engaged those carriers which were most
likely to implement BCBP with minimum effort. These airlines met the
below criteria:
●
●
●
Airline uses a DCS system which is BCBP capable and can
provide the BCBP feature at low cost and with a short lead time
Airline uses web check-in and simply has to insert a bar-code on
the web page to implement BCBP
Airline’s parent company is BCBP capable, which can offer
strong incentives to also implement BCBP
IATA is pleased to announce that 26 of the 45 airlines engaged have
implemented or made plans to implement BCBP. In 2008, IATA will
support airlines to implement BCBP through workshops,
implementation guides and local engagement. Read the complete
report.
