Dear Parents and Carers, Thursday 17 th June 2010
How quickly is this half term moving along? I think it’s probably because the school is so busy with such a range
of fun, exciting and memorable learning experiences taking place at the moment. You may have seen Year 6 out
and about on the roads this week undertaking their Bikeability Cycle training.
Have you heard our Samba band? Class 3 are making great progress with learning Samba rhythms at the
moment and they will perform as part of our music concert in a few weeks time.
Well done to the Maypolers who did really well at the Village Fete on Saturday, the sun shone and all went well.
Thanks also to Rachel Herbert and Jo Barker as well as the other parents who have lead, helped and supported.
The next dance will be at the Longdown Village Fete.
Class 4 visited the Sidmouth Observatory last week as part of their science topic Earth, Sun and Moon, the
children really enjoyed the planetarium and Mrs Barker said that the children were ‘fantastically’ behaved
and asked the guides lots of really relevant and thoughtful questions. Such visits really make a difference to
children’s learning and are far more real and meaningful than other teaching approaches.
Parent Questionnaires, we have had a great number returned, please could any outstanding ones be returned
as soon as possible, your comments are always really helpful and help shape the future of the school. This week
I have been conducting a questionnaire of pupil’s views and these outcomes, along with those from parents
will be used to help shape out school improvement plan for next year.
Great Outdoors Week: Don’t forget that on Monday for Classes 1 and 3 is a dressing up day, come as
explorers, the children in these two classes will start the week with a local walk, collecting and sketching ready
for the clay workshop later in the week. I suggest that any costumes are not too elaborate, something suitable
for a walk and explore. If you have anytime to help with the clay workshops on Wednesday or Thursday please
add your name of the board in the entrance hall.
Can you help FIS with teas and coffees on Sports day or man a stall for the summer Fete? If so please sign up
on the clipboard in the entrance hall, the more helpers the better!
Sports Day: Sports day will commence at 9:30am with a picnic lunch on the field, children can either have a
bag meal or packed lunch with their parents. All parents are welcome to join us for the morning, if needed Sports
Events will continue into the afternoon. All the children will be active throughout the morning, with a circuit sport
of activities followed by flat races. We didn’t get to do our Sports Day last year because of the weather but the
atmosphere was great the year before, when for the first time children from Foundation to Year 6 all took part.
