Once again departing Senzu but we got off at Shin Kanaya for a tour of the Oigawa railway workshops. Four of their steam locomotives were there, one stored, C12 164. Our guide told us it was not allowed to go and photograph it being alongside the running line...this was after I had already been and photographed it !! The fifth steam locomotive worked into the station on a passenger train. Scattered around the station area were three of the old electrics. Outside the station is a small railway museum that had 2 private steam locomotives on display, numbers 1 and 1275. 1937 built 2-6-2T C12 164, owned by the Japanese National Trust stored out of use 27 May 2011 after spending many years on static display in Kyushu, 2-6-4T C11 190, built in 1940 was restored and returned to service in 2003 Shin Kanaya workshops, 27 May 2011 Now back to Kanaya to change for our train to Tokyo where we had about 3 hours free time before heading to the airport. I still had not seen as many locomotives as I would have liked and when I was here 5 years ago I visited a depot at Shin Kawzsaki, about 20 minutes out of Tokyo so I decided to go there and 5 of the group came with me. This is quite good as there are a lot of locomotives stabled in the station area with a road on both sides of the tracks joined by an overbridge, all of which are good vantage points. The depot itself was about a quarter of a mile from the station so we walked to it and saw more from a footbridge. We did not attempt to enter, so happy with that, we returned to Tokyo to catch the train to our hotel. on the whole tour the best selection of locomotives together was at Shin Kawzsaki depot (Tokyo) where EF64 1003 is seen 27 May 2011 Double, Bo+Bo+Bo+Bo EH500 27 Shin Kawzsaki depot 27 May 2011 from the road overbridge, 10 electric locos are seen outside Shin Kawzsaki station 27 May 2011 33 Shin Kawzsaki Depot from the footbridge with DE10 1136, DE11 2004 (skirt) and in the foreground DE10 1669, 27 May 2011
