Traffic & Traction News by John Barton December 1 66616 on the 4Z61 Tilbury - West Burton Cemex Fly Ash Tanks passed Tempsford between Sandy and St Neots at 08.30. Ex-DRS 66418 headed eastbound on the Didcot avoiding line at 19.37. December 2 The NR measurement train was seen at Norwich at 14.07 with 43013 leading 43062. The run was supposed to go on to Manningtree, Harwich and elsewhere but due to a points failure on the Bury – Stowmarket stretch and a freight failure south of Ipswich the train ran to Ipswich then Norwich and back via Ipswich to Derby (photo below from Stuart Moore). December 3 (cont) GBRf 73205 passed through Tonbridge with three bolsters whilst 73213 + 1001 were waiting to depart from the West Yard on ‘The Old Curiosity Mystery Tour’ (see report elsewhere). December 3 66502 ‘Basford Hall Centenary 2001’ on 4V46 Crewe Basford Hall - Wentloog passed Tilstock near Whitchurch at 11.09 (photo below from Roger Francis). 57314 t&t 57316 on 1V41 Holyhead - Cardiff Central Rugby Special passed Tilstock near Whitchurch at 08.08 (see photo at end of article from Roger Francis). December 4 60091 passed through platform 1 at Doncaster around 10.40 looking and sounding good this morning heading north on an engineer’s train. December 5 90043 failed at Ipswich a while back (believed to be a traction motor issue). It was dragged from Ipswich Yard to Ipswich Griffin Wharf by 66540 and then onto an Allelys low loader. 390055 passed Preston at 15.38 on a Carnforth - Edge hill ecs move. December 6 90024 + 92001 + 90039 dead in tow passed through at Rugby at 19.14 on 6L48 Garston – Dagenham. 66423 working a late running Daventry - Ripple Lane Sugarliner & Tesco's Less CO2, passed Barking at 16.01. December 7 92001 on the 6L48 Garston - Dagenham Dock cartics passed Barking eastbound at 22.47. 37087 t&t 37667 on the 3S10 Stowmarket - Shenfield RHTT arrived at Ipswich at 19.52, departing 2 mins later. 66305 arrived at Carlisle at 18.54 and departed 3 mins later southbound on the Coatbridge - Daventry intermodal. 37516 arrived at Carlisle at 17.25 and departed at 18.02 heading north working Carnforth - Mossend light engine move December 8 66714 + 73206 + 73208 + 73212 passed through Tonbridge at 10.12 heading to St Leonards. 66071 t&t 67028 was seen standing in the Up Platform at Hitchin waiting to head towards Royston at 08.21. 20
December 9 Two light engine moves to Kingmoor Yard passed northbound through Carlisle, 66518 at 09.05 from Leeds Midland Road and 70004 at 10.32 from Crewe Basford Hall. December 11 Ex-FL 66739 + 66740 headed northbound through Basingstoke Plartform1 at 15.19 working 0Y23 Eastleigh – Tonbridge. 47786 t&t 47851 passed Chorley at 14.14 on a Bridlington - Carnforth ECS move December 12 47810 t&t 47790 on 1Z12 Finsbury Park - Peterborough crossed Cuffley Viaduct at 15.00 December 13 313210 had smoke coming from the front coach in Brighton platform 1 at about 16.10, it was due to work the 2K95 16.24 Brighton - West Worthing, fire extinguishers were initially used until the fire brigade arrived. 37682 departed Perth at 17.33 heading north towards Inverness via Aviemore on snow clearing duties 56133 were seen on a low loader parked on the A5/M42 junction at 20.00 presumably going to Kingsbury. December 14 92031, looking great, leading 92003 paused in Northampton centre roads from 19.30 to 19.41. 66568 passed Northampton southbound at 18.00 on a Birch Coppice - Felixstowe liner. 4492 ‘Dominion of Canada’ was seen in Norwich Yard at 16.27 having arrived for the following days <strong>Railway</strong> Touring Co tour to York (photo below from Stuart Moore). December 15 (cont) 4492 ‘Dominion of New Zealand’ with 47786 + 47760 on the rear was seen heading towards Ely at 08.26. 37607 t&t 37606 on a southbound test train passed through Sheffield at 17.37. 47832 t&t 47802 departed Carlisle at 14.53 on a Carlisle - Newcastle Charter via Settle with stock 3174, 3273, 1566, 3267, 3182, 3275, 3247, 325, 17167, 10734 & 10729. December 16 66729 hauled 466011 + 466013 on the 5X44 Doncaster Wabtec - Tonbridge West Yard. 66542 on 4M55 Southampton - Lawley Street passed through Leamington Spa at 08.55 (photo below from Roger Francis). December 15 With the RHTT season over, a convoy of DRS locos left Norwich for Crewe at 10.15. The RHTT Cl.37 & 57 locos had been stabled overnight in the royal siding with 47841 brought over from Crown Point Depot by 57004. The photo below from Stuart Moore shows 57004 leading 47841 (clean) + 37510 + 37069 + 57003. December 17 73201 t&t 73138 arrived at Faversham at 09.44. 92037 departed Birmingham International at 10.01 working the 1Z65 Westbury – Liverpool Edge Hill (from International to Basford Hall). 5043 ‘Earl of Mount Edgcumbe’ headed north towards Chesterfield passing Alfreton Road Bridge north of Derby Station at 09.51 on a Tyseley Warwick Road - York Charter. December 18 67025 + 60163 ‘Tornado’ on 5Z89 Dollands Moor – Eastleigh, departed Basingstoke at 18.46. 21
