Unfortunately it suffered an AWS failure requiring a change in plan and an unscheduled visit to Tonbridge to pick up loco assistance. It is seen heading off to Ashford behind GBRf 73213 at 14.15. Society Notice Board Editor’s Comments: Happy New Year to you all and I hope Santa brought you what you wanted. Certainly Bombardier got a pre Christmas lifeline with the award of the 130 EMU carriages for Southern. We won’t go into the realms of why it is that UK civil servants love to uphold EU rules to the letter whilst others member states correctly ‘bend’ them for their national interest. So with the political storm still raging over the Thameslink contract awarded to Siemens, it was not surprising Bombardier got a sweetener. Let’s hope more work stays in the UK with the other contracts yet to be decided. With the cascade of DMUs around the country concluding ahead of the December timetable, there is plenty to see, just need to get out ! Same applies to new Cl.70s for FL with four already here and 70017 due in the UK by the time you read this. Certainly the weather has been kinder over the festive season than last year, particularly down south where I was spending Christmas & the New Year…another whiskey soaked Hogmanay missed !! We should be back up north when you read this and back to snow…romantic rather than damaging would be nice for a change. Eastleigh Works Tour, Thurs 15 th March 2012: All places are now taken, but we are operating a waiting list. The Wagon Book above is updated to the 1 st October 2011 and has one new helpful feature in that wagons known to be stored are shown with the suffix (s). The Name Directory last published in 2010 is updated to the 10 th November and has been reworked to iron out the issues with advertising names and therefore better than ever. Duplicate names v numbers in Part 2 have also been removed. As it is the only such book on the market it is an invaluable reference source and one used regularly by the editor. The next new 2012 book to be released at the end of January will be the Combine, so get your orders in as above. Errata: On page 25 last month under KWR Steam Gala I inadvertently listed 51218 as a DMU when it should have been the 0-4-0 L&Y Pug.
