As Eurobild had only little experience in the diamond cutting technique, the close collaboration with the 

customer started already during the tendering stage. In order to calculate the total costs, first the 

proceeding needed to be defined. Therefore, also test cuts on the original concrete were carried out. 

At an estimated cutting surface of 100‘000m2 already small deviances have a great effect on the 

result.

CONCEPT 

OPTION SHORT CUTS / SMALL BLOCKS (10 TONS) 

Advantages 

– Clearly structured order of the single cuts 

– Many identical steps 

– Same size of concrete blocks 

– Simultaneous working on many different parts of the building possible 

– The many identical working steps require only little application knowledge of the workers. The staff 

is quickly instructed and able to reach good results within a short time 

Disadvantages 

– All the structures need provisional backing / securing 

– Many single work places need power and water supplies 

– Many small concrete blocks cause slower evacuation 

– The machines need to be placed again and again in different positions, which costs time

OPTION LONG CUTS / BIG BLOCKS (UP TO 100 TONS AND MORE)

Advantages 

– Over all, drastic reduction of cutting surface 

– The saws need less change of position 

– Less holes are required 

– Less provisorial backing / securing necessary 

– Demolition of cut concrete blocks is quicker 

Disadvantages 

– Experience in lifting an moving big and heavy concrete parts 

– More heavy equipment necessary 

– A lot of experience in the use of wire saws required 

– Much space in the direct environment of the building needed

DECISION 

The offer from Eurobild to Atomstroyexport was made under consideration of the following facts 

– Use of a combination of the options short and long cuts 

– Start of the demolition on two opposing sides of the building 

– The building will be cut top down and not floor by floor 

– Blocks with a maximum weight of 100 tons will be cut 

– Confirmation of 10 months project period (time delay at temperatures of -10 degrees) 

Volume of machines and tools for project start 

– 25 storage wire saw 

– 2 quarry wire saws 

– 3000m of diamond wire per month
