Nothing works like
a HEREFORD
in the pasture, at the feedlot, on the table.
Dear Cow-Calf Producers,
We’re excited about this sale offering. They really are “Our best North Star sale offering ever” as we’ve
been saying in our sale advertising this winter. We added the words “North Star” and “Starlette” to our
bull and heifer calf names several years ago as we continued crossing our great Line 1 cow herd base
with many of the highly desirable traits found in Canadian Herefords such as solid carcass traits and
outstanding growth besides just plain hardiness.
Part of the fun of getting older is learning to balance what needs done on the ranch with how long it
takes you to do it and how much your body cooperates. More than ever we appreciate raising Herefords.
Disposition is a big part of their appeal. Cattle aren’t domesticated animals, but fewer attitude
issues means fewer busted gates and less time getting cattle moved from Point A to Point B (without
several points in-between). On page 3 we lay out what a Ridder Super Cow is…and calving ease ties
in with good dispositions.
Another fun part of getting more mature is looking back at where you started. John’s grandparents started
in the purebred Hereford business over a century ago. John’s dad continued and grew that business.
Now we’re making improvements here and there from our facilities to the bulls we purchase to how we
cross our different bloodlines, all with the goal of producing the best cattle we can for our ranch and for
yours. Nothing provides a better barometer of our progress than remembering our cattle 25 years ago
and our young kids helping us work them.
Speaking of kids, we’re beginning a new
chapter in our family life. Our oldest, Joe,
is engaged to marry Christine this August.
So while we still have kids in college and
high school, we also have sons in the work
place and a soon-to-be daughter-in-law.
Life keeps getting better and better!
As for our sale, we invite you to look
through this catalog and give us a call with
any questions you may have. Please mark
your calendar and join us Thursday, February
3rd for a noon lunch and 1 p.m. (CST)
sale. We would appreciate your business
and your trust in our cattle.
