SKAGIT VALLEY
FARM MAP HISTORY
The beloved Skagit Valley Farm Map was
originally published by Richard Royston
with the support of local farmers and
volunteers. The purpose of the map has
been and continues to be to highlight local
Skagit County Farms that produce food,
while also attracting local tourism. Richard
passed the map publishing responsibility
to Jean Shea, a local farmer in 2007.
Since then, the map has continued to grow
in production and distribution, and has
added the website, www.skagitfarmmap.
com. The map is “of the farmers, by the
farmers, and for the farmers,” and it is
hoped that will not change in the future.
We want to thank all the participants of
the map for their participation and support,
because without it the map would not
exist. The goal of the map has been to
provide reasonably priced advertising to
Skagit County Farmers, and this goal is
achieved through volunteerism, and Skagit
County’s hotel and motel tax fund grant.
In 2012 the non-profit organization, Puget
Sound Farm Link partnered with us and
is “committed to linking small farms that
want to use direct marketing to sell their
products with consumers in the Puget
Sound Region, and doing it in a way that
inspires not just new farms and farmers
to begin but by way of the success of its
subscribers offers encouragement to older
family farms to remain in agriculture
with the new generation possibly taking
up the challenge of changing the farm’s
course towards a more successful one of
direct marketing.” If you are a local Skagit
County Farmer, or farm supporting business
interested in placing a listing in the map,
please contact us through the website, www.
skagitfarmmap.com. Enjoy your tour of
our precious Skagit County Farms, and the
bountiful harvest it has to offer!
