N0TE.—The following Regulations, applicable to the Province of British Columbia, were enacted<br />

by Order in Council, dated 26th Nov., 1888 :—<br />

1. Net fi3hing allowed only under licenses.<br />

2. Salmon nets to have meshes of at least 6 Inches extension measure.<br />

3. Drift nets confined to tidal waters. No nets to bar more than one.third of any river. Fishing<br />

to be discontinued from 6 a to. Saturday to 6 a m. Monday.<br />

4. The Minister of Marine and Fisheries to determine number of boats, seines or nets to be used on<br />

each stream.<br />

5. The close season for trout is fixed from the 15th Oct. to 15th March.<br />

SYNOPSIS <strong>OF</strong> FISHERY LAWS.<br />

Net fishing of any kind is prohibited in public waters, except under leases or licenses.<br />

The size of nets is regulated so as to prevent the killing of young fish. Nets cannot be set orseines<br />

used so as to bar channels or bays<br />

The use of explosive or poisonous substances, for catching or killing fih, is illegal.<br />

Mill dams must be provided with efficient fish passes. Models or clrawngs will be furnished by<br />

the Department on applic tion.<br />

The above enactments and close seasons are supplemented in special cases, under authority of the<br />

Fisheries Act, by a total prohibition of fishing for stated periods.
