Preparation Installing the Remote Control’s Batteries Your CD changer’s remote control requires two AA batteries (not supplied) for power. We recommend alkaline batteries (RadioShack Cat. No. 23-552). 1. Press in the battery compartment cover’s latch and lift off the cover. 2. Put two fresh AA batteries into the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside. 3. Replace the cover. Cautions: • Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended type. • Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries (standard, alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable batteries of different capacities. • Always remove old or weak batteries. Batteries can leak chemicals that can damage electronic circuits. • If you do not plan to use the remote control for a month or more, remove and store the batteries. Note: If the remote’s range is reduced, replace the batteries immediately. Using a Receiver’s Remote Control with the CD Changer If your receiver/amplifier (such as most Optimus Professional Series receiver/ amplifiers) has an OSR mark, the receiver/amplifier’s remote can control some of the CD changer’s functions. Plug one end of the supplied control cable into the CD changer’s CONTROL IN jack. Plug the other end of the cable into the receiver/amplifier’s CONTROL OUT jack. Notes: • This connection disables the CD changer’s infrared sensor. Aim the remote control at the receiver/amplifier’s infrared sensor. • You must also connect audio cables to your receiver for the receiver’s remote control to operate your CD changer. For details on connection and operation, refer to the receiver/amplifier’s owner’s manual. 6
Basic Operation Warning: To protect your hearing, set the volume on your receiver or amplifier to its lowest level before you load and play a CD. Caution: Do not set the volume on your receiver or amplifier too high while playing soft or quiet portions of a music program. Due to the CD changer’s wide dynamic range, the speakers might be damaged if the music program includes a sudden loud passage. Using the Remote Control Note: The remote operates the CD changer from up to 23 feet away and within 30° of the front of the CD changer. Many of the CD changer’s buttons also have a corresponding button on the remote control, and you can use either the CD changer or the remote control to control the function. To use the remote control, point it at the infrared sensor on the left side of the front panel and press the control button. When the remote control’s operating distance reduces or if the remote control stops working, replace the batteries. Loading CDs in the Rack Note: Always handle CDs by their edges. Fingerprints and scratches on a CD’s surface can prevent the laser beam from correctly reading the digital information. For more information, see “CD Care Tips” on Page 18. The multi-disc rack holds 100 CDs. The disc slots are numbered in clockwise order, from 1 to 100, and can hold either 3-inch or 5-inch CDs. Follow these steps to load up to 100 CDs in the slots. 1.
