Gluttony in the Glebe, book 2

Following the success of last
year's Gluttony in the Glebe
cookbook, staff at The Body Shop at
797 Bank Street will be publishing a
sequel. The title is Gluttony in the
Glebe II: Dining on the Deck. The
price is $10. The recipes range from
a golden carrot soup to tabouleh to
venison marinades to great summer
cocktails. We hope to launch the
cookbook in the next month, so keep
an eye out for it!
The proceeds of the book go
towards our Stop Violence Against
Women campaign. Last year, we
sent a local woman, who is a
survivor of violence, to Outward
Bound's Women of Courage program.
This year, we hope to do the
same.
Women of Courage is a specially
designed, week-long course that
brings women together to share a
powerful experience, while discovering
the beauty and serenity of
the natural world. Participants are
given the opportunity to explore
beyond their own perceived limitations.
The program allows women to
expand their capabilities and return
to their regular lives with a renewed
sense of strength and competency.
The course is a seven-day journey
that focuses on increasing selfesteem
and self-reliance, building
supportive relationships with other
women, atid enhancing body awareness
and a sense of physical strength.
The groups are made up of eight to
ten women, accompanied by two
female Outward Bound instructors.
DOG WASH
Glebe Car Wash, Ottawa's only
indoor car wash, located on Glebe
Avenue, just east of Bank Street, is
expanding its operations to include
Oasisa new facility for washing
dogs. The self-serve dog wash (selfserve
for owners, not for dogs) is in
a separate room of the heated
building. Prices are $8 to $10 depending
on the quantity of shampoo
and lotions required. There is also a
laundromat on the premises. Hours
8 a.m.-8 p.m. daily except Sundays,
10 a.m.-4 p.m. Info: 230-9274.
DOG TREATS
Dogs can also be pampered with
special homemade
snacks
from Happy
Doggie
Bakery. The
treats are
made with
all-natural
ingredients and
are available in a variety of flavours
including peanut butter and cheese.
There is a hypo-allergenic line as
well. Both Berry's Pet Food, 151A
Second Avenue, and Planet Botanix,
911 Bank Street, carry the coolcies
which sell for $5 a package. Info at

ECOCITÉ
Retail space has already been
purchased in Ecocites condominium
development planned for Bank
Street at Wilton Crescent. Kaleidoscope
Kids' Books, an independent
Ottawa-based bookseller, will
occupy part of the ground floor
space About 50 per cent of the
dwelling units in the green condominium
project are already
reserved.
GLEBE SPA
Luz Maria Alvarez-Wilson has
opened new spa facilities this month
at 177 First Avenue. The name of the
new business is Glebe Spa.
