Manager – Allied Health Services or directly to Director of Community Services for<br />

specific project work.<br />

Delivery of Dietetic services, health promotion and education, including inpatient<br />

and outpatient clinical services at Gippsland Southern Health Service and home<br />

based and community services auspiced by Gippsland Southern Health Service.<br />

PERFORMANCE MONITORING:<br />

An initial formal review of performance will be undertaken within three months following appointment and<br />

then at least every 12 months based upon this position description.<br />

Qualifications<br />

• <strong>Gr</strong>aduated from a DAA Accredited Course, be eligible for membership of DAA and registration<br />

as an Accredited Practising <strong>Dietitian</strong><br />

Experience<br />

• Wide clinical experience to enable a complete general Dietetic Service to be offered to<br />

Gippsland Southern Health Service and regional communities.<br />

Knowledge<br />

• Knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare and Equal Employment Opportunity<br />

Legislation.<br />

• Knowledge of <strong>Dietitian</strong>s’ Code of Ethics<br />

• Knowledge of Quality Improvement Principles<br />

Personal Abilities/Attributes/Skills<br />

• Provide advice, supervision and leadership to a team of service providers.<br />

• Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.<br />

DESCRIPTION<br />

Participate in ongoing personal and professional development through:<br />

Attendance at staff meetings and inservice programs.<br />

Maintaining knowledge and skills relevant to the position through participation in and<br />

contribution to the facility staff development program. This includes attending mandatory<br />

training (i.e. orientation to the organisation, Occupational Health and Safety, basic life<br />

support and fire training).<br />

Develop positive communication networks with supervisory staff.<br />

Identifying personal knowledge gaps with supervisor and work towards meeting these needs.<br />

Acquisition of knowledge and competencies through education, training and staff<br />

Complete administration and documentation tasks according to the Health Service requirements in<br />

order to ensure ongoing funding and facility viability by the following:<br />

Ensure that all documentation is accurate and completed in a professional and timely manner.<br />

Ensure all documentation is updated and completed daily as required, thus ensuring a high<br />

standard of care is delivered.<br />

Ensure accessibility of client records through timely completion and return to the record<br />

system.<br />

Ensure that Health Service Policies and requirements of client privacy, security of client<br />

records and confidentiality are followed.<br />

Use all resources in a responsible, effective and cost efficient manner.<br />

Participate in the Risk Management program on behalf on Dietetics department.<br />

DESCRIPTION<br />

Ensure effective management of the Dietetic Service by:<br />

Being involved in budgetary decisions affecting the Department.<br />

The provision of professional supervision, assistance and encouragement to staff.<br />

Ensuring all staff are familiar with and act within the Policies of the Dietetic Service.<br />

Attending meetings, seminars, conferences and liaising with other professionals,<br />

internally to this department.<br />

Involvement in recruitment of staff.<br />

Managing stocks of equipment to allow for service provision.<br />

Contribute to the education of Health Care orientated students by acting as a resource,<br />

demonstrating the role of a health professional, working within primary health care<br />

principles and using a multi disciplinary approach.<br />

Ensure the Dietetic Service operates with a safe and healthy environment by:<br />

Adhering to Occupational Health and Safety principles and developing systems to<br />

monitor and improve the work environment and manage risk.<br />

Ensuring all equipment is maintained in safe condition.<br />

Ensuring all staff are familiar with safe operation of all equipment.<br />

Contribute to policy development and implementation by:<br />

Developing and maintaining an up to date Policy and Procedure Manual documenting<br />

all activities of the Dietetic Service.<br />

Liaising with professional associations and major teaching institutions.<br />

Ensuring the highest quality, most appropriate services are provided to the Community by:<br />

Developing, implementing and reviewing an ongoing program of quality improvement<br />

activities.<br />

Reviewing community needs and implementing appropriate changes to services to<br />

meet these needs wherever possible.<br />

Referring any grievance arising from any source with matters relating to the Dietetic<br />

Service to the Director of Community Services.<br />

Participating in appropriate educational opportunities.<br />

Contribute to the provision of dietetic services by:<br />

Providing treatment to inpatients, outpatients and community based clients as required.<br />

Liaising with other disciplines and agencies to develop appropriate and effective<br />

treatment for clients.<br />

Promote Primary Health Care principles by:<br />

Assisting in the development and implementation of health education and promotion<br />

programs.<br />

Assisting in the development and implementation of early intervention programs.<br />

Providing services within a Primary Health Care framework.<br />

Participate in an advisory and clinical capacity in the GSHS staff health program as<br />

requested.<br />

Be able to articulate the social determinants of health.<br />
