Dear Dean,
As per your request, we have completed a brief assessment
of the limestone quarry and surrounding area, on Lot Nos.
5 and 6, Concession No. l, Galway and Cavendish Township
in Peterborough County, Ontario. We have provided a site
location map on Figure 1. It was our understanding that
the purpose of this assessment was to inspect the
conditions in the existing quarry, and to determine the
aggregate potential and accessibility, in light of
possible future expansions. It is our understanding that
you own the mineral rights to Lot Nos. 5 and 6, and that
these rights are subject to certain conditions described
in the Ontario Mining Act.
The following report is based on a review of the informa
tion which you have provided, and the data which we
collected during our on-site assessment.

SITE WORK!
A geologist from Site Investigation Services Limited
visited the site on October 24, 1994. At this time, our
inspection of the quarry stratigraphy and the surrounding
outcroppings was carried out. Representative samples of
the quarry stone were taken for analysis. Data from the
field work has been referenced to scaled air photos of
the site, which were provided by the Ministry of Trans
portation. Some subsurface data is also available in the
drill logs for two boreholes advanced just north of the
quarry.
RESULTS :
A map of the Windover Trespass area, including data from
our field inspection, is shown on Figure 2. A Forest
Access Road and a series of access trails provide clear
passage from Highway 507 into the quarry and surrounding
lands. Figure 2 also indicates the locations of the two
previously drilled boreholes mentioned above. The drill
logs have been provided in Appendix 'A 1 at the end of
this report.
A stratigraphic section through the quarry is shown on
Figure 3. The pit face has a relief of 18.0 meters,
separated into two lifts of roughly 9 meters each. The
quarry sequence has been identified as part of the Lower
Gull River Formation, typified by light grey limestone
and dolostone lithologies. This rock has a very fine
grained to crystalline (lithographic) texture. In parts
of the succession, the rock has been weathered to a
mottly reddish-brown colour, indicating the presence of
iron oxides. Several of the limestone units in this
formation are fossiliferous, containing abundant coral
and brachiopod fragments.
According to the Aggregate Sources List for Structural
Concrete Fine And Coarse Aggregates in Ontario (Eastern
Region), published by the Ministry of Transportation, the
top 7 meters of the upper lift of the limestone quarry
has been deemed qualitatively acceptable for Granular 'M 1
Class l and Class 2 aggregates. The Class l aggregate
requires processing and washing.

The field observations suggest that an immediate expan
sion of 0.5 hectares may be possible in the vicinity of
the quarry and DDH#2. This would extend the existing
quarry north to the limestone ridge indicated on Figure
2. Based on a 7 meter thick extraction zone, with an
average density between 2.5 and 2.6 g/cm3 , the quantity
of material acceptable for use as Granular 'M' aggregate
would be about 90,000 tonnes. A more complete subsurface
database in the quarry area would be required to confirm
this estimate. If the potential extraction zone could be
expanded to include the former building stone quarry (see
horizontal hatching shown on Figure 2) , the aggregate
reserves might exceed l million tonnes.
These results indicate that the Elliott-Windover Lime
stone Quarry could be a potentially valuable aggregate
resource, with pre-existing accessability for trucks and
machinery. Further testing and exploration would be
necessary to determine the economic viability of an
extraction program at this site.
