Frontier Research System for Extremophiles
2. Studies on applications of microorganisms
To have effective collaboration researches with
companies our frontier researches are focused on finding
out the seeds of attractive applications. To achieve
this goal, studies on functionality of genes, substances,
proteins, and useful enzymes from the deep sea, earth's
crust, and special environments are the first step.
Further characterization and finding applications of the
above will be done as the next steps. So far, we have
discovered highly alkaline α-amylases, highly alkaline
CGTases, new mannanases, a super-alkaline protease,
new agarases, and useful enzymes from genome
sequences. Analyzing and genetic engineering of a
high alkaline proteases, development of enzymes using
for production of oligo-saccharides, post-genome studies
of Bacillus halodurans (pH adaptation), and crystallization
of useful enzymes are also in progress.
3. Collaboration researches with companies
Currently, collaboration with companies, including
pharmaceutical, food, chemical, computer soft, and
off-scouring treatment companies, have resulted in the
dispatch of researchers to our center for joint research.
