Outline
JAMSTEC has run training courses for diving techniques since for deep-sea divers, researchers, engineers
and rescue members of the police and the fire service. Over this period, the programs of these courses have been
changed to meet the demands of the time. The SCUBA diving course and the Diving Management course have been
operated regularly, and JAMSTEC also runs education programs on marine science and technology for high school
students, university students and schoolteachers mainly during the summer vacation.
In addition to these training and education courses, since FY JAMSTEC has run the "Asia-Western Pacific
Ocean Research Network program", a training program on ocean observation technology and data processing for
establishing an oceanographic observation network in the Asia and Western Equatorial Regions.
1. Diving training courses
JAMSTEC has run training and education courses
for diving techniques since and about , people
have participated as of the end of FY. There
have been changes in their programs to meet the
demands of the time. The Mixed Gas Diving course
for deep-sea divers was held once a year from the
beginning until . And the SCUBA (Self-
Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) Diving
course has been in operation since and more than
persons have attended the course annually over
the last two years. The Diving Management course for
diving supervisors has been run regularly, once or
twice a year, since . (Fig. )

related to diving work, and trainees including rescue
members of the police and the fire service, fisheries
high school students and company employees
