Come see what’s inside the
George Museum
The George Museum provides children
and adults with something to do, children
with somewhere to play, and all with something
to learn.
“Children are invited to visit the museum
to experience what we offer in exhibitions,
from the exciting Mini Museum to getting
hands-on with the object and activities offered
in the Kiddies corner,” said Curator
Linda Yozo.
Also on offer is a large, unusual collection
of mechanical musical instruments,
an offering of works from the Art Gallery
by prominent South African artists, and
the outdoor complex focusing on the indigenous
woods and associated industries of
the Southern Cape.
The Museum is also planning exciting programmes
and activities for the young ones
during the December School holidays,
concentrating on play and learning.

RED BERRY FARM
If you are looking for a fun and original day
out, there is nothing that rivals the Redberry
Farm experience along the scenic
Garden Route. Take the family for a lovely
outing to this farm, on the R404, where
you can pick your own strawberries.
Red Berry Farm offers an outdoor tea
garden, miniature train rides, pony rides,
large outdoor playground, bubble ball,
strawberry picking and a fresh farm stall
with a wide variety of crafts, fresh vegetables,

THREE CHAMELEONS
Three Chameleons is situated on the
R404 between Fancourt and George Airport.
They offer something for the whole
family. The immaculate short golf course
is open to everyone and they have a very
original putt-putt that will keep kids of all
ages entertained. All golf equipment can
be hired. You can also enjoy something to
eat at their fully licensed restaurant which
has a variety of delicious meals on the
menu overlooking the mountains on the
deck. They are open 7 days from 08:00 to

BARNYARD DONKEY SANCTUARY
Situated on the R102 between the airport
and George, you will fi nd the Barnyard
Donkey Sanctuary where abused and illtreated
donkeys are cared for.
These beautiful animals just love attention
and children enjoy petting or feeding
them. Bring some carrots and fruit and
come feed the donkeys, while enjoying the
serenity of the surroundings and breathtaking

Do the artist route in George
Visual arts will be brought to the public
when member artists of the South Cape
Association for the Visual Arts (SCAVA)
open their studios to art lovers. The work
of ten artists can be viewed as part of
the George Art Route which will be open
to the public from 13 December until 18
January, excluding 22 to 31 December,
and only on Thursdays and Fridays. Anyone
with a passion for art can pay a visit.
“The studios of well-known local artists lie
along the George Art Route,” said Chairman
Ken Smith adding, “The Art Route will
form part of the envisaged ‘Ab-initio Outeniqua
Art Route’, the next phase of which
will be launched in the foreseeable future.”

SCAVA enables artists to have a line of
connection to the South African National
Association for the Visual Arts (SANAVA)
and links to the International Art world. It
also promotes the Southern Cape as a
vibrant area for visual arts. Whilst SCAVA
is autonomous, it works closely with other
visual arts organisations. One of the aims
of SCAVA is to form art clusters within the
South Cape and to allow the association
of artists within the area so as to take the
lid off any mystique about art and to encourage
artists to come out of their shells.
At the same time the general public needs
to be shown work that may otherwise remain
in studios.

Visit the Outeniqua Railway Transport Museum and make a few discoveries.
Nostalgia at the Outeniqua
Transport Museum
George boasts a unique railway transport
museum where you can take a trip down
memory lane. At the Outeniqua Transport
Museum you can admire 13 steam locomotives,
including a narrow gauge, the
Emil Kessler- Johannesburg’s first steam
locomotive, the impressive GL Garrett.
Also on display are carriages from a bygone
era, such as a coach from the Royal
Train of 1947, Paul Kruger’s coach and
private saloons, just to name a few.
This museum is visited by many overseas
visitors and is regarded as one of
the top railway museums in the world.
Various models of steam locomotives,
a brilliant collection of steam locomotive
number plates. There is also a miniature
train model room where people passionate
about model trains have created a
fairy tale world. The room is open on selected
days, phone 044 801 8289 for more
information.
The Outeniqua Transport Museum is open
as follows: Monday to Friday from 08:00 to
16:00. Sat 08:00 to 14:00 and on Sundays
the Museum is closed. The entrance fee is
R20 for adults and R10 for children under
12 years, while children under three years
get free entry.
