Reliable detection of cows in heat (oestrus) is a key factor for successful
breeding in herds using artificial insemination. Research shows that the oestrus
period in dairy cows can sometimes last for less than 8 hours and a significant
share of heats occur overnight.
HEATIME ® is an advanced, compact and cost-effective system for detection
of oestrus in dairy cows and buffalo herds. The system is designed for small
to large dairy herds and can be configured for stand alone installation or
networked with iDATAFLOW management software.
HEATIME ® will improve the fertility rates and calving cycles, reduce “days
open” and expenses on semen. The detection of oestrus is done by using
Milfos’s unique ID and Activity Technology. The tag includes a motion sensor,
microprocessor and memory, which enables it to record a general activity
index. This index quantifies all cow movements such as walking, running, lying,
standing, head movements etc. The activity index is stored separately in the
tag’s memory for every two hours. This separate recording enables the tag
to monitor the cow’s activity on a time axis with great accuracy regardless
of the time intervals between the tag readings. The additional information
together with appropriate software allows it to differentiate abnormal activity
associated with oestrus from other normal activities such as walking to and
from the farm dairy or any other occasional activities. The tag can store data
for up to 24 hours. The HEATIME ® comprises a small control box, with an ID
unit, enabling simple installation and operation on any farm.

HEATIME ® HR monitors the general health and reproductive performance of your herd
for increased milk production.
In addition to the benefits of heat detection, the revolutionary HR system adds
rumination monitoring for close monitoring of cow status and early identification
of potential health issues.
Patented HR collar tags measure activity and rumination with advanced sensors,
accurately recording body movements and their intensity, as well as the cow’s internal
state. Data is transferred from the HR tags to the HEATIME ® HR terminal and once a cow
is detected to be in heat or potentially sick, the system provides alerts.
Detailed graphic reports for each individual cow support unprecedented pinpoint
decision-making about health and reproduction.
Each cow is given a health index score; a score of 100 relates to perfect health whereby
a reduction in this score highlights cows that require attention. This simple metric is a
handy management tool.
Automatic sorting along with emailed alerts provide additional management tools and
the system can be upgraded to iDATAFLOW and fully integrated into milking system
technologies.

HEATIME ® HR for Health Management
Rumination is a critical sign of a cows well being. Changes in
rumination are the earliest signs that provide warning about potential
problems.
The earlier a farmer can obtain information about a potential health
problem the most cost effective the treatment will be.
The HEATIME ® HR system monitors your cows for 4 conditions:
1. Significant Drop in Rumination – Typically signals a major health
event that must be treated immediately. This could be severe
mastitis or metabolic disease.
2. Low Rumination at Calving – The system expects the cow to reach
a minimum threshold within a few days after calving. Failure to do
so could mean metritis or ketosis which needs to be dealt with early.
3. Slow Decline in Rumination – Slow reduction over a period of time
indicates a declining health condition that can be difficult to pin
point visually and often not until the cows health becomes critical.
4. Changes in Group Rumination Rates – May indicate a change to
the feed intake and TMR ration. Balancing this will improve cow
health and milk production.

HEATIME ® HR

HEATIME ® HR for Reproduction Management
HEATIME ® HR optimises reproduction
processes. The system consists of collar
tags, control terminal and an ID unit.
Activity data is stored in the tag for up to
24 hours with 2 hour data storage blocks.
Once the cow nears the ID unit, data is
transferred from the tag to the unit. The
control terminal then analyses the activity
data, using proprietary algorithms which
differentiate between a cow’s regular daily
activity and oestrus-related activities.
Cows displaying oestrus-related activity
levels prompt alerts on the control terminal.
A detailed and graphical cow activity report
then enables informed decision-making
about reproductive processes.
