Background
Fluidized bed technology has been widely accepted
by the food, feed, fine chemical and pharmaceutical
industries as an appropriate and very versatile method for
drying, granulation, pelletizing and functional film coating.
Originally, these processing options were used as batch and
continuous operations for drying disperse products. During
the past twenty years however, the number of continuous
fluidized bed systems installed by the above referred to
industries has dramatically increased for granulation,
pelletizing and coating.
In the beginning continuous systems were preferred
whenever large quantities of a product had to be produced,
as such allowing for extended production campaigns with
the benefit of steady-state process parameters.
Nowadays as 3-shift operation becomes more standard than
exception, the distinct advantages of continuous operation
also recommend themselves for the produc-tion of smaller
quantities with downscaled equipment.
A new generation of continuous spouted bed systems
now enable the processing of hardly fluidizable or sticky
products, thus allowing new ideas for the classic fluidized
bed units.
This workshop provides a technological overview
on the continuous particle processing procedures
available, illustrates the optional processing choices
by industrial case studies and completes the picture
by relevant process demonstrations.

agglomeration, coating, powder layering and
tabletting
• Demonstration of spray systems and influence
of spray parameters on the process
