Tom Coughlin
NFL Record: 162‐128 (Overall)
NFL Head Coach: 17th year
College: Syracuse
The 2011 season solidified Tom Coughlin’s
standing as one of the finest and most successful
coaches in NFL history.
The Giants finished 9-7 and won the NFC
East championship before winning four postseason
games, including their second Super
Bowl in five seasons, a 21-17 victory over
the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.
Coughlin improved to 2-0 in Super Bowls as a
head coach. He is the 13th coach to win multiple
Super Bowls and is one of 18 coaches with
a perfect Super Bowl record.
In 16 seasons as
a NFL head coach, Coughlin is 150-121 (.554)
in the regular season and 12-7 (.632) in the
postseason for an overall record of 162-128
(.559). The 150 regular season victories place
Coughlin one victory behind Steve Owen on
the all-time regular season victories list. The
2012 season is Coughlin’s ninth with the Giants,
making him the second-longest tenured
coach in franchise history. Only Hall of Fame
Coach Steve Owen, who reigned for 24 seasons
from 1930-53, led the team for a longer
time period.
Coughlin’s 82 regular-season Giants victories
are the second-highest total among head
coaches in team history, behind only Steve
Owen (153). His eight Giants postseason victories
tie him with Parcells for the franchise
record. Coughlin has led the Giants to two
NFC East titles and five playoff berths in eight
years.
In 2011, Coughlin reached a number of impressive
coaching milestones. His 12 postseason
victories tie him with former Pittsburgh
Coach Bill Cowher for the sixth-highest total
in NFL history. Coughlin and Bill Belichick are
the only two active coaches on the list. In
2011, Coughlin improved to 2-2 in conference
championship games, including 2-0 with the
Giants.
The 2011 Giants gained a franchise-record
6,161 yards. The former mark of 6,085 was
set in 2010. Those are the only two 6,000-
yard seasons in Giants history.
Andy Reid
NFL Record: 140-101 (Overall)
NFL Head Coach: 14th year
College: Brigham Young Univ.
One of the most successful head coaches
in recent NFL history, Andy Reid has really
put his stamp on this city’s beloved football
team. After taking over a 3-13 club on January
11, 1999, Reid has been simply masterful in
turning the Eagles into one of the NFL’s elite
teams.
In 2008, Reid became the 37th head coach
in NFL history to reach the 100-win plateau
with a 27-14 victory over the Falcons on Oct.
28. In addition, he became the 22nd coach
to win 100 games with one franchise and the
17th coach to reach the century mark in wins
during his first stint as a head coach.
Reid is the 18th coach in NFL history to remain
with this original team for 10-or-more
years, and since 1990, is one of five first-time
head coaches to do so: Reid (since 1999),
Fisher (since 1994), Brian Billick (1999-2007
with Balitmore), Bill Cowher (1992-2006 with
Pittsburgh), and Dennis Green (1992-2001
with Minnesota).
In 2003, the Eagles overcame a 0-2 start
and a slew of injuries to post their second
consecutive 12-win season. During that season,
Reid registered his 50th career win (in
his 81st game) to become the fastest coach in
team history to reach that milestone. A year
earlier, Reid was the overwhelming choice
as the NFL’s coach of the year as the Eagles
thrived without the services of McNabb to
still capture home field advantage in the NFC
playoffs.
His vision, his dedication, his passion, and
his organizational skills are impeccable. For
those reasons he was promoted to head
coach/executive VP of football operations on
May 8, 2001.
Reid came to the Eagles after spending seven
seasons as an assistant coach with Green
Bay under Mike Holmgren. During that span,
the Packers reached the playoffs six times and
defeated New England in Super Bowl XXXI.
