GIANTS NOTES:
- Followed his father, Archie, and brother,
Peyton, into the NFL…Archie was the 2nd pick
of the 1971 draft and played 14 years with
New Orleans, Houston and Minnesota. Peyton
was the 1st choice of the 1998 draft by the
Indianapolis Colts, is a four-time NFL Most
Valuable Player and was the winning quarterback
in Super Bowl XLI. Peyton Manning is in
his 1st season with the Denver Broncos.
- Manning won the Rozelle Trophy as the
Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XLVI four
years after he earned that honor in Super
Bowl XLII. He is the fifth player in NFL history
to win multiple Super Bowl MVP honors (Joe
Montana, three; Tom Brady, Terry Bradshaw
and Bart Starr, two).
- Manning is the first Giants player to win
the Rozelle Trophy multiple times. Previous
Giants Super Bowl MVPs include quarterback
Phil Simms (Super Bowl XXI) and running back
Ottis Anderson (Super Bowl XXV).
- In 2011, Manning set an NFL record with 15
fourth-quarter touchdown passes. The previous
record of 14 was set by Hall of Famer
Johnny Unitas in 1959 and tied by Peyton
Manning (2002).
- Manning’s record as a starter is 77-57
(.574) in the regular season and 8-3 (.729)
in the postseason. The 77 victories are the
2nd-most by a Giants quarterback since
Giants Stadium opened in 1976. Simms won
95 games from 1979-93. Manning is 58-41
against the NFC and 19-16 vs. the AFC. He is
28-22 in NFC East games, 39-28 at home and
37-29 on the road.
- Manning’s record as a starter in October is
27-6, an .818 winning percentage that is the
best of any quarterback with at least 20 starts
in the Super Bowl era.
- Manning has started the Giants’ last 134
regular-season games, the longest streak
eli manning
among active quarterbacks and the 3rd-longest
in history. Only Brett Favre (297) and
Peyton Manning (208) started more consecutive
games than Manning.
- Manning’s 134 consecutive starts is a
record for Giants quarterbacks. The previous
mark of 69 starts in a row was set by Fran
Tarkenton from 1967-71.
- Manning is the 1st Giants quarterback to
throw for more than 3,000 yards in eight consecutive
seasons, the 1st to have three 4,000-
yard seasons and the first to throw at least 20
touchdown passes eight years in a row.
- With 206 career touchdown passes,
Manning is the 4th quarterback to throw
more than 100 touchdown passes in a Giants
uniform, joining Simms (199), Charlie Conerly
(173) and Tarkenton (103).
- Manning was selected to play in his 2nd
Pro Bowl in 2011, though he did not play in
the game because the Giants were in the
Super Bowl. When he played in his 1st Pro
Bowl following the 2008 season Manning
became the 1st Giants quarterback to be
selected to the game since Simms in 1993.
