GIANTS AT PANTHERS
SEPTEMBER 20, 2012
GIANTS 36, PANTHERS 7
It was surely a night to remember for the Giants’ 2009 draft class, as the third and fourth
round picks from that draft, Ramses Barden and Andre Brown, had career games. The
Giants as a team got out to a much quicker start than they did in their previous game, as
they led the Panthers 20-0 at halftime. Things didn’t get much better for the Panthers in
the second half, as they eventually fell to the Giants, 36-7, at Bank of America Stadium.
Brown carried the ball 20 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns in his first career
start. Barden hauled in nine receptions for 138 yards in his first career start. Eli Manning
completed 28 passes for 288 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Martellus Bennett
caught his third touchdown pass of the season on a 14 yard pass from Manning on the
Giants’ opening drive. The catch gave Bennett a touchdown in each of his first three
games as a New York Giant.
The Giants’ offense came away with points on their first four possessions of the game.
Kicker Lawrence Tynes’ 30 yard field goal with 12:49 in the third quarter gave the Giants
their biggest lead of the night, as they extended their lead to 23-0, before Cam Newton
got the Panthers on the board for their only score of the night on a one yard run with
6:26 left in the third quarter.
Cam Newton threw three interceptions, and was sacked twice. Michael Boley’s interception
in the fourth quarter was his third of the season. So far, he has intercepted a
pass in each of the Giants’ games in the 2012 season. With a strong, balanced effort
from the offense, defense and special teams, the Giants were able to improve to 2-1
on the season.
