When it comes to facing NFC East rivals in 2012, the third time was the charm for the
New York Giants, as they were able to improve to 1-2 in the division, and 5-2 overall. The
Redskins took a 23-20 lead on a 30-yard catch by Santana Moss with 1:32 left in the game.
However, the Giants’ offense, which seemed to be out of sync for much of the game,
took the lead back only two plays into the drive. Eli Manning would find Victor Cruz on a
streak route for the game-winning 77-yard touchdown pass with 1:13 left in regulation.
The Giants’ defense struggled in the first half, as the Redskins were able to come away
with scores on all three of their drives in the half. However, the defense came up with
many big plays in the second half, despite giving up yards and several conversions on
third and fourth-down. In the game, the Giants’ defense recorded an interception, came
up with three sacks, and forced three fumbles, all of which they recovered. The last
fumble was on the Redskins’ last drive and was recovered by Jayron Hosley, who Santana
Moss beat for the go-ahead score on Washington’s previous possesion.
Eli Manning ended up completing 26-of-40 passes in the game for 337 yards, one touchdown
and two interceptions. Victor Cruz caught seven passes for 131 yards and the gamewinning
touchdown, which was the longest in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter
in Giants’ history. Andre Brown and Ahmad Bradshaw each scored on one-yard runs in
the first and fourth quarters, respectively. The Giants’ 5-2 start to the season is their
eighth in nine seasons under Tom Coughlin, with the exception being a 6-1 start in 2008.
