giants AT ravens
december 23, 2012
RAVENS 33, GIANTS 14
The Giants fell to the Baltimore Ravens, 33-14, at M&T Bank Stadium in one of their most
dissapointing losses of the season, giving them an outside shot at reaching the postseason.
Needing to win their last two contests ensure a playoff berth, New York came out
sluggish on both sides of the ball, going three-and-out on their first three offensive series
and allowing Baltimore to score on their first two. After allowing two early touchdowns,
David Wilson’s 14-yard touchdown run closed the gap to 14-7, but they were unable to
build on that, and the deficit only grew from there.
The Giants defense allowed the Ravens offense to consistently sustain long drives, as
the Ravens possessed the ball for nearly 40 minutes, while allowing three touchdowns in
the first half. The Giants defense only allowed the Ravens to get three field goals in the
second half, but the Ravens drives still ate up too much time for the Giants offense to
attempt a comeback.
The Giants defense allowed the Ravens offense to amass 533 yards, with 309 coming
through the air and 224 coming on the ground. A bad trend of the Giants defense surrendering
big plays continued, as four different Ravens each had one reception of more
than 25 yards and also allowed back-up RB Bernard Pierce to break off a 78-yard run. The
Giants offense was only able to generate 186 yards of total offense in the game.
Eli Manning was sacked three times for a loss of 31 yards and was hit on many dropbacks.
He went 14-28 for 150 yards and a touchdown, while his counterpart Joe Flacco went
25-36 for 309 yards and two touchdowns. Flacco also scored from one yard out and was
never sacked. Rueben Randle led the Giants receivers with one catch for 43 yards.
