Flexibility, efficiency and quality for your fine foods process
engineering for a better world
GEA Process Engineering

Continuous heat treatment in fine foods production …
Food products require a
sufficient shelf life – and this
should be obtained with
little loss in quality and in
an economical way. To
achieve this goal, the product
is subjected to thermal
treatment.
As a continuous solution for the
heat treatment of fine food products
GEA TDS offers exactly the right
pasteuriser for viscous food. It is based
on a flexible system of tubular heat
exchanger modules and is suitable for
a broad spectrum of finished premixed
products of different viscosities;
products containing pieces and/or
fibres can also be processed.
The GEA TDS heater unit thus offers
a recommendable thermal treatment
solution for demanding fine food
products such as premium ketchup,
mayonnaise, seasonings and dips.
Your economical advantage: the
flexible combination of modules of
high economical and ecological
efficiency gives you the highest leeway
for production planning and marketing
with minimum expenditure of time
and cost for energy, operation control
and maintenance.
Economic management of resources
and raw materials is also considered.
You can expect a maximum of product
processing efficiency by GEA TDS
design. Our customers can benefit
from individual solutions to minimise
product losses and utility use just as
the amount of effluents.
The core component – the tubularheat
exchanger – is designed by our
GEA TDS heat exchanger experts,
and they will find the optimum
process solution for every demand!
Safe processing
Meeting our customers’ exact
requirements means to support high
and repeatable product quality:
Heat recovery module
■■
for increasing efficiency thanks to
regenerative heat transfer.
The heat recovery module can be used
for products of medium viscosity and
can be flexibly connected/disconnected
in accordance with the product
running through the line.
The final destination in the process
line can, for instance, be an ultra-clean
tank or a filling machine with buffer
tank.
The ingredients must have been
adequately stabilised and emulsified
before they can be fed to the heater
unit for thermal treatment.
Examples of our standard lines
1. Single module for heating
2. Single module for cooling
3. Combination of heater and cooling
module for continuous treatment
processes for products of medium to
high viscosity such as
■■
thick sauces
■■
dips
■■
mayonnaise
■■
seasonings
in the performance ranges for 1,000
and 3,000 kg/h
4. Combination of heater and cooling
module with heat recovery module for
products of low to medium viscosity
such as
■■
premium ketchup
■■
dressing
with the option to increase the output
from 1,000 to 2,000 kg/h and from
3,000 to 6,000 kg/h at the same energy
consumption level.
Other options can be selected at the
customer‘s request or in accordance
with product and process requirements
VARITUBE ® tubular heat exchanger …
The product is heated / cooled
in the thermal treatment unit
indirectly by heat transfer
from water in a counter flow.
Each and every detail has
been perfected with regard to
high efficiency.
The VARITUBE ® tubular heat
exchanger is a straight-tube heat
exchanger with one or more inner
tubes situated in a shell. The inner
tubes have a profile for improved
heat transfer.
As VARITUBE ® tubular heat
exchangers have an optimised ratio
of heat exchanger surface to product
volume, they increase thermal
efficiency, thus enabling maximum
product quality and high heat
recovery, i.e. low steam and cooling
water consumption.
The high pressure and temperature
resistance of the VARITUBE ® heat
exchangers, in conjunction with the
pump technology used, provide high
flexibility with regard to product
viscosity.
The modular design allows for easy
maintenance and easy extensions or
future modifications. The tubular
heat exchangers are EHEDG certified,
have robust and reliable seals with
universal product resistance. Straight
and smooth product flow paths allow
for cost-effective and easy inspection.
