Continuing evolution
that’s smarter every time
Every generation of the SeaSmart Offshore Package solution
is a direct result of in-depth focus groups with senior
engineering teams from our customers around the world.
They cover everything from the operating implications of
different well fluid mixtures, to layout restrictions of various rig
and ship types, to specific objectives for power, mechanical
drive, emissions and maintenance – any conceivable aspect
can be introduced. We then synthesize feedback and data
from the separate customer sessions and explore systemwide
possibilities to achieve the collective goals.
The LM2500 marine gas turbine is a simple-cycle, two-shaft, highperformance
engine derived from GE’s leading TF39 and CF6-6
aircraft engines. It consists of a gas generator, power turbine,
attached fuel and lube oil pumps, fuel control and speed governing
system, associated inlet and exhaust sections, lube and scavenge
systems as well as controls and devices for starting and monitoring
engine operation.
The PGT25+G4 is a 34-MW gas turbine consisting of an enhanced
LM2500+ G4 gas generator coupled with a two-stage, high-speed
power turbine module with increased flow capacity. It delivers high
efficiency and reliability, fuel flexibility and low emissions in both
mechanical drive and power generation
PGT25+G4
Gas generator
The gas generator is upgraded for increased flow capacity
of the high pressure (HP) compressor and turbine. The
pressure ratio increases from 23.6 for the PGT25+ to 24.2 for
the PGT25+G4. Design changes have been limited to minor
blade and stationary vane airfoil adjustments that provide
the required mass flow increase. The HPT modifications
include minor blade cooling improvements, material upgrades
proven in aircraft engine technologies for higher temperature
capability, adjustments to the compressor discharge
pressure seal to maintain optimum rotor thrust balance. For
DLE applications, the combustor heat shields are upgraded
with benefits including field replacement and reduced
maintenance.
Power turbine
The aerodynamic blading design provides high efficiency
at both the design point and at reduced speed. The 6,100
rpm design enables direct coupling with driven equipment,
simplifying the system and enhancing overall efficiency
and availability. The cartridge philosophy significantly
reduces maintenance intervals, cutting costs and increasing
availability. Optimized cooling flows, in conjunction with the
latest generation of seals, increases component life and
maintains the efficiency at peak.

Our new inlet plenum design achieves smoother air suction with less turbulence for overall
optimized inlet flow. Built with composite materials for significant weight reduction, it is also
fully compatible with existing GT inlet intakes.
The redesigned modular turbine enclosure simplifies access to enable regular generator
maintenance in far less time, as well as easier turbine replacement and upgrades as
technologies advance.
superior
adaptation
Size and weight are critical factors offshore, so we continually explore new ways
to reduce them. But our commitment doesn’t end there. While the strongest
design traits carry forward, we also inject our latest rigorously tested and
proven technologies and design features to even further increase performance,
maintainability and availability.
Game changers in our latest package are significant design advances
in three key areas:
• Inlet plenum flow efficiency and weight reduction
• Turbine enclosure simplification for improved maintenance access
• Filtration efficiency
Maintenance requirements are further reduced and simplified through a variety
of other features like 4H lock-out, 8k BSI, fast turbine exchange, an on-line
washing system, as well as improvements in ergonomics and safety.
From each generation of the SeaSmart Offshore Package solution to the next, we
are truly delivering bigger things in smaller and smarter packages.
The new filtration system includes HEPA filters that are 99% efficient, water tight and salt repellent with a
high burst pressure – and pre-filters that eliminate 97% of water content. Even the filter house structure
itself has been redesigned to enhance overall package performance.
