<strong>Advanced</strong> <strong>TEM</strong> on graphene-based materials
A post-doctoral position for an already well-trained transmission electron microscopist is
available in the NanoMat Group (CEMES, CNRS) as part of a collaborative project involving a
French-Italian consortium, supported by the French Agence Nationale de la Recherche. The work
proposed will be dedicated to the investigation of graphene-based materials by all modes of <strong>TEM</strong>
with a focus on the most advanced ones, typically atomic resolution, nanodiffraction, and
electron holography. Materials to be investigated are prospective and include graphene, fewgraphene
crystals, doped graphenes and intercalated graphene stacks, and 3D graphene-based
materials. They will be obtained within the project from a partner laboratory. The whole project aims
in achieving the fully controlled and selective synthesis of graphene, bi-graphene, and tri-graphene
batches, with the multi-graphene crystals exhibiting controlled stacking sequences (turbostratic,
Bernal, commensurate,…). The project also aims in making the graphene-based materials prepared
available as stable suspensions, and in using them to build 3D all-graphene materials such as ideal
schwartzite analogues.
Duration of the fellowship: up to two years provided the recruited postdoc person meets the
expectations.
Starting date: ideally mid-2011 or earlier.
Monthly salary: 1900-2400 Euros (after social tax, before income tax) depending on the
experience.
Applicants with demonstrated skills and experience in transmission electron microscopy and the
related electron-matter interaction physics are welcome to apply. The experience should include at
least one of the above-mentioned advanced <strong>TEM</strong> modes, and will be trained at CEMES regarding
the other modes if needed. Being already experienced in and/or in studying graphene-based
materials would make the application even stronger but is not compulsory.
Other restrictions: none, but being reasonably fluent in English or French, and a nice person to
work with.
