the facts<br />

• One in 11 mums will experience<br />

depression during pregnancy.<br />

• One in seven mums will experience<br />

depression in the year following the birth<br />

of their child.<br />

• <strong>Postnatal</strong> <strong>Depression</strong> is not the ‘baby<br />

blues’ – it does not go away on its own.<br />

• Having depression and anxiety is not<br />

a normal part of having a baby.<br />

• It’s important to get help early<br />

– talk to your GP or contact<br />

How you can<br />

become involved<br />

• Organise an event for your workplace, mother’s group or<br />

community group and screen Jessica Rowe’s story on<br />

<strong>Postnatal</strong> <strong>Depression</strong> from the beyondblue DVD Stories<br />

of Hope and Recovery.<br />

• Take a look at beyondblue’s new <strong>Postnatal</strong> <strong>Depression</strong><br />

<strong>Postnatal</strong> <strong>Depression</strong> <strong>Awareness</strong> <strong>Week</strong> and follow<br />

the links. You can screen the advertisements at your<br />

awareness-raising event, listen to people’s stories and<br />

share your own story.<br />

• Display beyondblue <strong>Postnatal</strong> <strong>Depression</strong> awareness<br />

posters on the noticeboard at work.<br />

• Order beyondblue <strong>Postnatal</strong> <strong>Depression</strong> information<br />

materials for your colleagues or members of your<br />

community group for display in the tea room or foyer.<br />
