We Walk His Way is the third in a series of shorter songs for worship from John
New! L. Bell and the Iona Community. The songs included in this collection are from
many different cultural traditions, including Taiwanese, South African, Asian,
and Guatemalan. Iona’s previous collections, Come All You People and There Is One among
Us, have proved to be useful in English-speaking countries, and several of the songs have been
translated into other European languages. The global scope and versatility of these simple songs
for worship can link us to the greater universal church.
The short and memorable melodies on this CD are very sensitive and soulful, and many have
a sincere and solemn tone. They bear continual repetition for meditation or as an accompaniment
to liturgical action. Many of the selections are a cappella or include very simple accompaniments
and instrumentation. They are easily taught, and the texts contain a wealth of spiritual, scriptural,
and theological meaning.

brief setting of the Stations, based on a striking fifteen-stanza hymn text
by Thomas Troeger, set to a tune by William Rowan. Each station includes a
simply chanted versicle and response at the beginning and end, one stanza
of the hymn, a biblical text for reading by a leader, and a spoken psalm
excerpt as the response of the assembly. Good for repeated use throughout
Lent. The organ accompaniment offers numerous settings and variations on
the Rowan tune.

deacons or cantors proclaiming these stories according to the traditional chant. Based on the 1988 Vatican
edition of the Passion Gospels, this setting of the Passions according to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and
