- Originally a 5th round (160th pick overall)
draft choice by the Giants in 2003.
GIANTS NOTES:
- Tough, durable and versatile offensive lineman
missed only 4 games in his first 9 seasons
with the Giants. Diehl started the first 120
regular-season games and 7 postseason games
in his career, the longest such streak by a Giant
since the introduction of the 16-game schedule
in 1978. The streak ended on Nov. 14, 2010 vs.
Dallas because of hip and hamstring injuries
Diehl suffered the previous week in Seattle.
- Diehl was the only player selected in the
2003 NFL Draft to start every game from 2003-
09. He was 1 of 4 players who entered the
league in 2003 and played in every regular-season
game through the end of the 2009 season.
The others were Josh Brown, Derrick Dockery
and Visanthe Shiancoe.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Has started 146 of the 150 regular-season
games and all 11 postseason games in which he
has played since joining the team in 2003.
- Diehl has started games at every position on
the offensive line but center. In the regular season,
he has started 65 games at left tackle, 43
at left guard, 22 at right tackle, and 16 at right
guard. In the postseason, Diehl has 10 starts at
left tackle, and 1 at left guard.
- Diehl started 120 consecutive games before
sitting out the first of 4 consecutive games on
Nov. 14, 2010 vs. Dallas. He suffered hamstring
and hip injuries at Seattle (11/7). When he did
not play the following week vs. Dallas, it ended
the streak. Diehl is the only Giant other than
Eli Manning (119 consecutive starts entering
the 2012 season) to start at least 100 consecutive
games since 1978…Diehl’s 120 consecutive
starts was the 12th-longest streak among all
active players and tied for the 6th longest
streak among offensive linemen.
2012 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS:
- Started at right tackle vs. New Orleans
(12/9).
- Saw significant action at tackle due to the
injury of Sean Locklear at Washington (12/3).
- Started at right tackle vs. Green Bay (11/25)
before leaving the game with a burner.
- Started at right tackle at Cincinnati (11/11).
- Started at right tackle vs. Pittsburgh (11/4)
for the first time since Week 2.
- Saw action on special teams at Dallas
(10/28).
- Saw action as an extra linemen vs.
Washington (10/21).
- Saw action on the offensive line as a jumbo
takle at San Francisco (10/14)...It was the first
game he played since suffering a knee injury in
Week 2 vs. Tampa Bay.
- Was inactive vs. Cleveland (10/7) due to a
knee injury.
- Was inactive at Philadelphia (9/30) due to a
knee injury.
- Was inactive at Carolina (9/20) due to a knee
injury.
- Started at right tackle vs. Tampa Bay
(9/16)...Diehl was forced from the game with
a knee injury he suffered on a one-yard Ahmad
Bradshaw run with 3:31 remaining in the first
quarter, and did not return.
- Started at right tackle against Dallas (9/5).
