BUCCANEERS VS. GIANTS
SEPTEMBER 17, 2012
GIANTS 41, BUCCANEERS 34
The Giants were able to rebound from a sloppy first half in order to come out on the
right end of a hard fought 41-34 thriller over the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers in
MetLife Stadium.
Eli Manning threw for three touchdowns, and established a new career high with 510
yards passing, also second most in the history of the franchise (Phil Simms, 1985).
Manning continued his trend of excelling in the fourth quarter, as he completed passes
to Victor Cruz and Martellus Bennett for touchdowns of 80, and 33 yards, respectively.
Hakeem Nicks scored on a 23 yard pass from Manning in the second quarter. Andre
Brown recorded the first touchdown of his career, on a two yard run, to cap off the scoring
for the game and give the Giants the lead for good. Giants’ Kicker Lawrence Tynes
accounted for four made field goals.
The first half saw Manning throw three interceptions, the last of which was returned 60
yards by Tampa Bay cornerback Eric Wright for a touchdown with 0:08 left in the first
half. The return increased the Buccaneers’ lead to 24-13. Tampa Bay was able to capitalize
on each interception, as their first three touchdowns came off of Giants’ turnovers.
The Buccaneers seemed to have the game in control Connor Barth made a 52 yard field
goal, to extend Tampa Bay’s lead to 27-13. From there, it was basically all Giants, as they
outscored Tampa Bay, 28-7 the rest of the way, to improve their record to 1-1 on the
season. The Giants recorded 604 total yards in the game, which was second most in the
history of the franchise (N.Y. Yanks, 1950).
