The Giants overcame an early 14-0 deficit by outscoring the Browns 41-6 the rest of the
way, as New York defeated Cleveland, 41-27, at MetLife Stadium. The win improved their
record to 3-2.
After Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw lost a fumble on the first play of scrimmage,
Browns running back Trent Richardson found the end zone from 15-yards out just two
plays later, to give the Browns a 7-0 lead. The Browns would reach the end zone again on
their very next drive, after quarterback Brandon Weeden hit wide receiver Josh Gordon
deep on a 62-yard strike to give the Browns that 14-0 advantage. But the G-Men woud
rally.
A three-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Eli Manning to wide receiver Victor Cruz,
cut the Giants’ deficit to 14-7. The second quarter was when the Giants’ offense came
alive. A four yard touchdown run by Bradshaw, a seven-yard pass from Manning to Cruz,
and two field goals (29, 40) from kicker Lawrence Tynes helped the Giants establish a
27-17 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Giants continued to move the ball well on the ground and via the
pass. Cruz scored again in the third quarter, this time on a 28-yard pass from Manning.
Bradshaw carried the ball 15 times for 120 yards in the second half. Finally, rookie running
back David Wilson recorded the first touchdown of his NFL career on a 40-yard run
up the middle, where he was virtually untouched on the play. Bradshaw’s 200-yard rushing
day on 30 carries was a career best for him, and was the first time that the Giants
had a 200-yard rusher in a single game since 2008, (Derrick Ward, Panthers). Cruz’s three
touchdown receptions were also a career-high mark for him.
The Giants were without several starters for the contest, but the Giants reserved once
again came up big. Rookie wide receiver Rueben Randle, filling in for Ramses Barden (concussion)
hauled in six catches for 82 yards, while safety Stevie Brown, filling in for Kenny
Phillips (knee) recorded an interception, and a fumble recovery on a kickoff.
