GIANTS AT REDSKINS
december 3, 2012
REDSKINS 17, GIANTS 16
The Giants had hopes in taking control of the division, but rookie sensations Robert
Griffin III and Alfred Morris proved to be too much down the stretch as New York fell to
their NFC East foe, the Washington Redskins, 17-16, on Monday Night Football. In a game
where they could not overcome their mistakes, the Giants were penalized nine times for
73 yards, including six for 45 yards in the first half, uncharacteristic for one of the least
penalized teams in the league.
After the Giants took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, the Redskins offense found the end
zone on one of the oddest touchdowns in recent memory. Quarterback Griffin III had slid
and appeared to give himself up, but lost the ball due to a Stevie Brown hit. The ball rolled
forward and was run in from 13-yards out by wide receiver Joshua Morgan.
The Giants offense methodically controlled the ball in the first half, as they ran 40 plays
to Washington’s 20 and possessed the ball for over 20 minutes. However, the Giants
could only muster one touchdown in the game, a four-yard reception by Martellus
Bennett from Eli Manning and only scored on a 35-yard field goal by Lawrence Tynes in
the second half.
For the first time since Sept. 2006, the Giants lost a road game that they were winning at
halftime. Eli Manning completed 20-of 33 passes for 280 yards and a touchdown. Ahmad
Bradshaw rushed 24 times for 103 yards. Victor Cruz registered his 11th career 100-yard
receiving game, third most in the NFL since 2011. Tynes made field goals of 39, 40 and
35-yards, but missed on a 43-yard attempt due to a wide snap.
