<strong>IEA</strong> SHC Task 38 <strong>Solar</strong> Air Conditioning <strong>and</strong> Refriger<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

As it can be seen, the system was designed to limit as much as possible the electricity<br />

consumption of the overall install<strong>at</strong>ion. Indeed only 4 pumps are used to run the entire<br />

system (without distribution). Moreover, a simple system always works better than a<br />

complic<strong>at</strong>ed one.<br />

Another point which must be enlightened it the choice of a dry cooler for the system’s he<strong>at</strong><br />

rejection. The “Résidence de Lac” is a building for retired peoples. As a consequence<br />

legisl<strong>at</strong>ion is very drastic concerning the legionella bacteria, <strong>and</strong> a drycooler was the only<br />

affordable way to reject efficiently energy without any restrictive regul<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

- The hot <strong>and</strong> cold backups are not included into the solar project, so they are not<br />

monitored. Indeed, the building is an existing building, so a conventional he<strong>at</strong>er <strong>and</strong><br />

air conditioning system were already used.
