2.2 Selection of a st<strong>and</strong>ard graphical scheme for the represent<strong>at</strong>ion of a<br />

reference system<br />

The selected conventional system to be taken as reference for comparisons consists of a<br />

condensing n<strong>at</strong>ural gas boiler to m<strong>at</strong>ch the space he<strong>at</strong>ing (SH) load <strong>and</strong> the domestic hot<br />

w<strong>at</strong>er (DHW). A small storage tank, with typical he<strong>at</strong> losses based on the measured<br />

domestic hot w<strong>at</strong>er consumption, has been assumed to be also he<strong>at</strong>ed by the n<strong>at</strong>ural gas<br />

boiler. Finally, the cooling load is supposed to be m<strong>at</strong>ched by a compression chiller.<br />

The conventional system has to include an AHU when the monitored system is based on a<br />

DEC. In case an AHU is present in the monitored system, the conventional include it as well<br />

but it is not significant for the comparison as the distribution systems are supposed to be the<br />

same. Figure 2-3 shows the selected conventional system <strong>and</strong> the relevant energy flows. A<br />

description of each flow is shown in the Table 1, Table 2 <strong>and</strong> Table 3.<br />
