<strong>FAST</strong> engineers set out to develop the ultimate fueling strategy for the EZ-<br />
<strong>EFI</strong> . The EZ-<strong>EFI</strong> features patent pending technology with the most advanced<br />
self tuning control strategy available anywhere today. Simply hook<br />
up the four necessary wires and any optional wires, answer the basic setup<br />
Wizard questions on the included hand-held display and the system tunes<br />
itself as you drive. Countless research and development hours were spent<br />

Basic EZ-<strong>EFI</strong> Startup<br />
1. Open throttle blades a small amount to allow engine to idle.<br />
Advanced intelligent self tune strategy, developed over two<br />
years of R&D, actually tunes engine MAPs while you drive.<br />
Throttle Body<br />
• Direct bolt-on carburetor replacement, including a Holley-style<br />
throttle linkage and 4150 square flange intake bolt pattern<br />
• Air temperature, throttle position sensor, idle air motor & manifold<br />
pressure sensor are located on throttle body housing<br />
• Advanced dyno-based development ensures proper fuel distribution<br />
in both single & dual plane manifolds<br />
• Includes injectors & fuel rails supporting up to 550 horsepower<br />
• Constructed from lightweight aluminum<br />
2. Turn key to on position, and allow injectors to prime the<br />
manifold with fuel.<br />
3. Answer a few simple questions on the handheld unit such as:<br />
What rpm do you want to idle at? What size is your engine?<br />
4. Start car & adjust throttle blade to allow car to idle.<br />
5. As vehicle warms up, the handheld unit will tell you when &<br />
how to adjust the throttle blades to the appropriate spot via<br />
an easy-to-read on-screen meter.<br />
6. That’s it! It will learn and adjust the idle and cruise as you<br />
drive and will learn wide-open throttle after a few passes<br />
through the rpm band.<br />

XFI Electronic Fuel Injection Systems<br />
Here’s the one electronic fuel injection system with truly revolutionary features and capabilities<br />
in an easy-to-use package. The <strong>FAST</strong> XFI system precisely balances fuel and spark, allowing<br />
you to fine tune like never before. The XFI system comes with easy-to-navigate software that’s<br />
completely configurable and allows you to set the parameters. Faster processing means no more<br />
flat spots in the power curve or settling for “close enough.” XFI is compatible with all common<br />
ignition types, including GM HEI, LT1, LS1, -2, -6, -7 DIS, Ford EDIS (4.6L & 5.4L), and Chrysler 5.7L,<br />
6.1L Hemi applications.<br />
Hardware Improvements<br />
The XFI uses the latest in flash microprocessor technology to deliver a significant increase in processing<br />
speed. This means the XFI can process, analyze and adjust four times faster than previous <strong>EFI</strong><br />
systems. In addition, a surface mount component circuit board and billet ECU enclosure give the XFI <br />
superior durability. And to simplify installation, <strong>FAST</strong> offers engine-specific XFI Wiring Harnesses<br />
featuring clearly labeled connections.<br />
Software Advances<br />
The C-Com XFI Windows-based software is easy to navigate and incorporates several previously unavailable<br />
features, such as field flashable capabilities that enable you to download the latest software<br />
updates via email or directly from the <strong>FAST</strong> website. Stay current without ever removing the XFI from<br />
your vehicle.<br />
Special Features<br />
The XFI features Qwik Tune Technology, which allows ECU programming without a laptop. Preprogram<br />
up to four different <strong>EFI</strong> MAPs, and select the tune-up you need with the flick of an in-car switch.<br />
Optimize one setting for everyday driving, others for racing conditions and still another for improved fuel<br />
economy. Other features include on-board diagnostics, EZ Test Indicator Lights, five bar MAP sensing<br />
and controls for your power adder and torque converter. The XFI also offers enhanced data logging<br />
capabilities and memory for analyzing up to 8 additional monitored inputs.<br />

Internal Data Logging (IDL)<br />
<strong>FAST</strong> offers an internal memory-based data logging option to give comprehensive data from<br />
all of your vehicle’s sensors and powertrain controllers. Available as a downloadable add-on for<br />
existing XFI owners or as an option with new XFI orders, Internal Data Logging allows recording<br />
of up to 24 input channels and sensors to instantly assemble a comprehensive, real-time picture<br />
of exactly what is going on under the hood of your vehicle. Internal Data Logging doesn’t require<br />
additional wiring harnesses or hardware and is an affordable option compared to purchasing an<br />
external data logger. Internal Data Logging is available with new XFI purchases, with or without<br />
Intelligent Traction Control , and in 8 or 16 injector versions.<br />
Intelligent Traction Control (ITC) 1<br />
One of the toughest challenges for drag racers is the loss of traction that comes from trying to put<br />
too much engine power to the ground with too little tire. The <strong>FAST</strong> Intelligent Traction Control <br />
solves that problem by using state-of-the art predictive software in conjunction with the most sophisticated<br />
electronics in the industry. Available with or without Internal Data Logging and 8 or<br />
16 injector versions, you can even send in your existing XFI unit and upgrade to a new one with<br />
Intelligent Traction Control .<br />
16 Injector Option<br />
The 16 injector option is available for already existing XFI units by sending in your engine control<br />
unit and also for brand new XFI purchases. This upgrades the XFI injector drivers to operate up<br />
to 16 injectors and includes the injector Y adapter.<br />

trust in the way of crank triggers for their 400 &<br />
500 hp daily drivers. Until now, flying magnetic<br />
trigger wheels with bulky inductive pickups<br />
have been used with the risk of broken magnets<br />
or losing magnets at high engine rpm,<br />
which is detrimental to engine efficiency. But<br />
not any more.<br />
The <strong>FAST</strong> Crank Trigger is a magnet-free device<br />
with a wheel constructed from ASTM A36<br />
grade steel that is so strong that it is only .125-<br />
inch thick and is virtually indestructible. With<br />
the wheel being this thin, it not only weighs less<br />
but requires less space than competitors’ aluminum<br />

is also much smaller than others on the market<br />

Engineered to work with nearly any electronically controlled automatic transmission, the <strong>FAST</strong> Transmission Controller is fully-programmable and can be run either as a<br />
standalone unit – even with a non-computer controlled engine – or in conjunction with either OEM or aftermarket ECUs, such as the <strong>FAST</strong> XFI Fuel Injection System and<br />
carbureted applications. The <strong>FAST</strong> Transmission Controller will work with most GM, Ford, and Chrysler electronically-controlled automatic transmissions and includes a wide<br />

MaxJet Precision Carb Jets<br />
Often you will hear a racer say, “I made two jet changes, but the engine still didn’t run properly.” The reason<br />
for this relates directly to the jets being used. Other jets are mass-produced with a wide tolerance, then plated.<br />
<strong>Man</strong>y of these jets use the same orifice size with the only difference being different angle tapers that supposedly<br />
change the flow-rate characteristics. Other jets also use a “slot” that requires a special, expensive tool to install.<br />
Ultimately, these slots become damaged and that damage creates a turbulence that severely affects the fuel flow<br />
as much as 50 percent.<br />
MaxJet Precision Carb Jets are available from 0.050” to 0.120” in gasoline jets and from 0.121” to 0.140” in<br />
alcohol jets. Sizes are in 0.001” increments and are compatible with all known racing fuels. MaxJet Precision<br />
Carb Jets are easily crossed over from Holley jets; simply find the Holley size that you’re currently using and follow<br />
over to the MaxJet column.<br />

Frequently Asked Questions<br />
What are the advantages and differences between the new XFI unit and my older style “classic” <strong>FAST</strong> system?<br />
The XFI computer processor is four times faster than the “classic” system, allowing it to control more features simultaneously. The new XFI system uses a 104<br />
pin wire harness versus a 60 pin wire harness on the “classic” system; again, these additional pins allow more features and devices to be controlled by the XFI .<br />
Additionally, performance features that had to be purchased separately with the “classic” <strong>FAST</strong> system are now included with XFI at no additional cost. Just<br />
click on the features you want to control in the included tuning software, i.e. four stage power adder control, boost control, traction control, etc. The XFI can also<br />
be run in either batch fire or sequential mode. If you choose sequential mode, you will automatically have individual cylinder control of both spark and fuel.<br />
Can my older “classic” <strong>FAST</strong> system be upgraded to an XFI ?<br />
Due to design differences, the “classic” <strong>FAST</strong> system cannot be upgraded to an XFI . You will be required to purchase both a new ECU and wiring harness.<br />
With the new XFI system, do I need a separate data logger?<br />
The XFI can be purchased with or without Internal Data Logging (See page 5). If purchased without the data logging feature, the XFI will record to a laptop when<br />
connected. <strong>FAST</strong> also offers an easy-to-use external data logger that simply plugs into the XFI . The external data logger will record up to one hour of data and<br />
does not require the use of a laptop (See page 9).<br />
I have an XFI but I would like to have some of the newer options such as Internal Data Logging and/or Intelligent Traction<br />
Control. Can I add these options to my existing XFI ECU?<br />
The answer is yes. Internal Data Logging can be added as a download via e-mail, or <strong>FAST</strong> can send a CD with the necessary option file. To upgrade an existing<br />
XFI to Intelligent Traction Control , you will need to send in the ECU, and <strong>FAST</strong> will upgrade it with the option file and a new billet enclosure that clearly identifies<br />
the ECU as having this option. You must call first and obtain a Return Authorization Number before sending an ECU in for this upgrade. For more information<br />

Can I have my XFI upgraded to ITC (Intelligent Traction Control ) without changing the enclosure?<br />
Each and every XFI that has the ITC option must be in a black billet ITC enclosure. In addition to this, there is an ITC-specific LED sequence that appears at key<br />
on. This allows tech officials to identify an ECU with the Intelligent Traction Control option.<br />
Is Intelligent Traction Control legal in my class<br />
ITC is not legal in all sanctioning bodies/classes. It is the user’s responsibility to check with his or her sanctioning body to make sure that an electronic traction<br />
control device is legal in competition.<br />
What hardware is required to use the Intelligent Traction Control ?<br />
The only device required to take advantage of our ITC technology is a driveshaft speed sensor. See page 7 of this <strong>catalog</strong> for driveshaft speed sensor kits.<br />
What’s the difference between “batch firing” or “bank-to-bank” vs. “sequential” systems? Which do I need?<br />
Batch fire systems fire all the injectors simultaneously. Bank-to-bank systems fire the fuel injectors in “banks”; half of them fire on one engine revolution and<br />
the other half fire the next engine revolution. A sequential system fires the fuel injector for each individual cylinder in the firing order of the engine. In most cases,<br />
bank firing will be fine, but if you’re using an extremely radical camshaft, high boost, or over 600 horsepower, you might find sequential to be a slightly better fit.<br />
It will usually make marginally more power and help some radical engines idle better.<br />

ECU<br />
CAN - Controller Area Network<br />
An electronic hardware standard that permits simplified, high speed interfacing between electronic control units in a vehicle environment. For example, the <strong>FAST</strong> XFI <br />
system can communicate with the <strong>FAST</strong> Transmission Controller through the use of its CAN bus.<br />
ECU - Engine Control Unit<br />
A vehicle-mounted engine control computer that varies engine behavior such as fuel injector activity, idle speed, air/fuel ratio, ignition timing, etc. based on input from<br />
an array of sensors including O 2 , TPS, and others.<br />
<strong>EFI</strong> - Electronic Fuel Injection<br />
A means of injecting fuel into the intake manifold of an internal-combustion engine using various types of fuel injectors that are controlled by an ECU (see below). <strong>EFI</strong><br />
takes many forms, including throttle body injection (TBI) where a carburetor-like throttle body houses the injector(s), and port injection, where rail-mounted fuel injectors<br />
feed into each runner of the engine intake manifold.<br />
MAP - <strong>Man</strong>ifold Absolute Pressure<br />
An engine sensor that measures intake manifold vacuum. Generally measured in bars, MAP data is used to measure engine load, which in turn allows the ECU to regulate<br />
engine behavior such as fuel supply and air/fuel ratio.<br />
O 2 - Oxygen<br />
Commonly used either as a shorthand term for an oxygen sensor or to describe oxygen as it is measured in engine exhaust gases. O 2 data is primarily used by an ECU for<br />
the purpose of regulating the engine air/fuel ratio.<br />
TCU - Transmission Control Unit<br />
A vehicle-mounted transmission control computer that varies transmission behavior such as shift points, shift firmness, downshifting and torque converter lockup based<br />
on engine load, vehicle speed and other variables.<br />
TPS - Throttle Position Sensor<br />
An electronic sensor, generally mechanically linked to the throttle body of an <strong>EFI</strong> engine for the purpose of measuring how far the throttle is opened when the vehicle<br />
operator steps on the vehicle throttle pedal. Throttle position data is generally expressed in terms of percentage and plays an important role in many ECU functions, not to<br />
mention determining when power adders such as nitrous are deployed.<br />
VATS - Vehicle Anti-Theft System<br />
An anti-theft circuit built into most GM fuel injection ECUs made after 1989. VATS must be bypassed with a special chip in order for some <strong>EFI</strong> engines to run when swapped<br />
from one vehicle to another.<br />
VSS - Vehicle Speed Sensor<br />
An electronic speed sensor, generally mounted in the output shaft housing of a transmission (a VSS may also be mounted at a wheel or other location). VSS data is used<br />
by both ECUs and TCUs for a variety of purposes, including torque converter lockup, downshifting, etc.<br />

Making a Warranty Claim<br />
A. Contact <strong>FAST</strong> within the warranty period at 3400 Democrat Rd, Memphis, TN 38118 or by phone at (901) 260-3278 Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.<br />
CST. Before any merchandise is returned for warranty, please contact <strong>FAST</strong> to obtain a Return Material Authorization (RMA). <strong>FAST</strong> will need a specific and<br />
detailed description of your problem, along with the type of product and information about you for contact purposes.<br />
B. Send the merchandise, freight prepaid and insured to <strong>FAST</strong> at the address below, along with dated proof of purchase. All merchandise returned for warranty<br />
must be accompanied by an RMA. The purchaser must prepay transportation charges for return of defective parts. <strong>FAST</strong> is not liable for any taxes or duties<br />
