1) Application Form
One application form per applicant should be perfected with full names. Initials are not acceptable.
2) 2) Two recent passport photographs (full face on white background)
One should be attached to the application form.
3) Current and previous (if any) passport
- Current passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended stay.
- Must not be older than 10 years.
- Has to contain 2 empty pages
- Surname and names should be entirely spelled. No initials.
- Copy of the entire passport.
- Children can travel in their parent’s passport only if they are under 15 and full names (no initials)
of children are endorsed in the parent’s passport
4) Proof of Airline reservation for a round e.g. trip reservation slip. Ticket should not be bought
until a Visa is guaranteed or issued
5) Proof of accommodation: hotel reservation or guarantee of host company, etc
6) Overseas Medical Insurance
valid for the length of stay and for all Schengen states covering medical repatriation, emergency
medical and hospital care. A minimum cover of 30.000 EUR is mandatory. The policy has to
clearly specify the period of validity and has to cover the date of arrival & departure has to be
submitted in original along with a photocopy for the first 14 days of stay in Austria
7) Cover letter explaining the purpose of the trip including detailed description of your proposed
course of study
8) Valid permit to return to Sri Lanka (e.g. valid resident or return visa for citizens of other
countries residing in Sri Lanka (if applicable)
10) Evidence of Student Status e.g recent letter of school/university
11) Proof of sufficient funds (if applicable)
- Original bank statements of last three (3) months including address & telephone number of the
bank, including the address & Telephone number of the bank
- Traveller's Cheques
Note: Credit cards and cash are not accepted as proof of financial means but credit card
statements can be submitted as supporting document
12) An invitation by a resident in Austria (if applicable)
- Electronic Statement of Guaranty by sponsor (Elektronische Verpflichtungserklärung, EVE)
obtained at the Foreigners Registration Office "Fremdenpolizei" in Austria.
13) Original and copy of letter of admission (University, language course, school etc.)
14) Copy of receipt or money order to prove payment of tuition for course (if applicable)
15) A permission letter from school/college where applicant is attending, confirming the absence of

leave for the duration of studying in Austria (if applicable)
Note:
‣ If you intend to work longer than six months, the applicant should apply for a residency-permit, and not for a visa.
‣ Visa “D” are issued for a validity between 91 and 180 days and cannot be extended or renewed in Austria
‣ Visa C are issued if the intended stay is less than 90 days.
‣ Applicant can be asked for additional documents or may be called for an interview if deemed necessary by the
Embassy.
‣ The Visa fee, according to Schengen regulations, is non-refundable
‣ Frequent business travellers, who can prove the previous visit have the option of applying for a business visa for one
year validity.
‣ Applications cannot be submitted more than 3 months prior to departure.
‣ Visa applications for short term stays shall be submitted at least 4 weeks prior to travel. If the application is
lodged less than 15 calendar days before departure, issuance of the visa before departure cannot be
guaranteed.
‣ The application process may take up to 15 calendar days, inquiries about the status will not be answered
earlier.
