1) Application Form<br />

One application form per applicant should be perfected with full names. Initials are not acceptable.<br />

2) 2) Two recent passport photographs (full face on white background)<br />

One should be attached to the application form.<br />

3) Current and previous (if any) passport<br />

- Current passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended stay.<br />

- Must not be older than 10 years.<br />

- Has to contain 2 empty pages<br />

- Surname and names should be entirely spelled. No initials.<br />

- Copy of the entire passport.<br />

- Children can travel in their parent’s passport only if they are under 15 and full names (no initials)<br />

of children are endorsed in the parent’s passport<br />

4) Proof of Airline reservation for a round e.g. trip reservation slip. Ticket should not be bought<br />

until a <strong>Visa</strong> is guaranteed or issued<br />

5) Proof of accommodation: hotel reservation or guarantee of host company, etc<br />

6) Overseas Medical Insurance<br />

valid for the length of stay and for all Schengen states covering medical repatriation, emergency<br />

medical and hospital care. A minimum cover of 30.000 EUR is mandatory. The policy has to<br />

clearly specify the period of validity and has to cover the date of arrival & departure has to be<br />

submitted in original along with a photocopy for the first 14 days of stay in <strong>Austria</strong><br />

7) Cover letter explaining the purpose of the trip including detailed description of your proposed<br />

course of study<br />

8) Valid permit to return to Sri Lanka (e.g. valid resident or return visa for citizens of other<br />

countries residing in Sri Lanka (if applicable)<br />

10) Evidence of Student Status e.g recent letter of school/university<br />

11) Proof of sufficient funds (if applicable)<br />

- Original bank statements of last three (3) months including address & telephone number of the<br />

bank, including the address & Telephone number of the bank<br />

- Traveller's Cheques<br />

Note: Credit cards and cash are not accepted as proof of financial means but credit card<br />

statements can be submitted as supporting document<br />

12) An invitation by a resident in <strong>Austria</strong> (if applicable)<br />

- Electronic Statement of Guaranty by sponsor (Elektronische Verpflichtungserklärung, EVE)<br />

obtained at the Foreigners Registration Office "Fremdenpolizei" in <strong>Austria</strong>.<br />

13) Original and copy of letter of admission (University, language course, school etc.)<br />

14) Copy of receipt or money order to prove payment of tuition for course (if applicable)<br />

15) A permission letter from school/college where applicant is attending, confirming the absence of<br />

s<br />

leave for the duration of studying in <strong>Austria</strong> (if applicable)<br />

Note:<br />

‣ If you intend to work longer than six months, the applicant should apply for a residency-permit, and not for a visa.<br />

‣ <strong>Visa</strong> “D” are issued for a validity between 91 and 180 days and cannot be extended or renewed in <strong>Austria</strong><br />

‣ <strong>Visa</strong> C are issued if the intended stay is less than 90 days.<br />

‣ Applicant can be asked for additional documents or may be called for an interview if deemed necessary by the<br />

Embassy.<br />

‣ The <strong>Visa</strong> fee, according to Schengen regulations, is non-refundable<br />

‣ Frequent business travellers, who can prove the previous visit have the option of applying for a business visa for one<br />

year validity.<br />

‣ Applications cannot be submitted more than 3 months prior to departure.<br />

‣ <strong>Visa</strong> applications for short term stays shall be submitted at least 4 weeks prior to travel. If the application is<br />

lodged less than 15 calendar days before departure, issuance of the visa before departure cannot be<br />

guaranteed.<br />

‣ The application process may take up to 15 calendar days, inquiries about the status will not be answered<br />

earlier.<br />
