<strong>Siemens</strong> builds <strong>the</strong> most advanced telecommunications <strong>network</strong> <strong>in</strong> Africa:<br />

<strong>Angola</strong> <strong>Telecom</strong> <strong>modernizes</strong> <strong>telephone</strong> <strong>network</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> capital Luanda<br />

<strong>Angola</strong> <strong>Telecom</strong> has commissioned <strong>Siemens</strong> Communications to expand and<br />

modernize <strong>the</strong> fixed <strong>network</strong> <strong>in</strong>frastructure <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> capital Luanda. The contract<br />

amounts 60 million euros and Covers several thousand <strong>telephone</strong> l<strong>in</strong>es and ADSL<br />

connections. This project means <strong>Angola</strong> will be build<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> most modern "New<br />

Generation Network" <strong>in</strong> Africa. It is part of a sweep<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>vestment program by <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Angola</strong>n government.<br />

The project will vastly improve <strong>the</strong> exist<strong>in</strong>g fixed <strong>network</strong> <strong>in</strong>frastructure <strong>in</strong> Luanda and<br />

enable <strong>Angola</strong> <strong>Telecom</strong> to offer its customers a wealth of Services that run over <strong>the</strong><br />

broadband <strong>network</strong>. Planned to take two years, <strong>the</strong> project <strong>in</strong>cludes a turnkey metro<br />

<strong>network</strong> of <strong>the</strong> latest generation. This <strong>in</strong>volves, among o<strong>the</strong>r th<strong>in</strong>gs, Multi-Service IP-<br />

DSLAMs (Digital Subscriber L<strong>in</strong>e Access Multiplexer) which support analog, ISDN and a<br />

variety of DSL connections. Next-generation carrier E<strong>the</strong>rnet components and optical<br />

fiber transmission <strong>network</strong>s will comb<strong>in</strong>e flexibility with high bandwidth <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> core<br />

<strong>network</strong>. To take care of <strong>the</strong> necessary knowledge transfer, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Siemens</strong> contract also<br />

<strong>in</strong>cludes an <strong>in</strong>tensive tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g program for <strong>the</strong> regulär staff, as well as a tra<strong>in</strong>-<strong>the</strong>-tra<strong>in</strong>er<br />

program.<br />
