Siemens builds the most advanced telecommunications network in Africa:
Angola Telecom modernizes telephone network in the capital Luanda
Angola Telecom has commissioned Siemens Communications to expand and
modernize the fixed network infrastructure in the capital Luanda. The contract
amounts 60 million euros and Covers several thousand telephone lines and ADSL
connections. This project means Angola will be building the most modern "New
Generation Network" in Africa. It is part of a sweeping investment program by the
Angolan government.
The project will vastly improve the existing fixed network infrastructure in Luanda and
enable Angola Telecom to offer its customers a wealth of Services that run over the
broadband network. Planned to take two years, the project includes a turnkey metro
network of the latest generation. This involves, among other things, Multi-Service IP-
DSLAMs (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) which support analog, ISDN and a
variety of DSL connections. Next-generation carrier Ethernet components and optical
fiber transmission networks will combine flexibility with high bandwidth in the core
network. To take care of the necessary knowledge transfer, the Siemens contract also
includes an intensive training program for the regulär staff, as well as a train-the-trainer
program.
