CYSS: It’s a Family Affair!
January 2011
Child, Youth and School Services recently asked staff to complete a brief survey.
Completing and returning the surveys was voluntary. We received more than 174 responses;
“Thank you” to all who participated.
We know the CYSS staff are dedicated, nurturing and hard working people. There is
also longevity among the staff. Currently from the responses we gathered there were
14 employees that have more than 20-28 years in CYSS, 10 employees with 15-19
years of service, 16 staff with 14-10 years and 23 staff with 9-5 years in CYSS.
Many of these folks have only worked at CYSS their entire career. They have made
friends through CYSS that are thought of often, and many are met again at new
bases. Relationships and friendships are forged that will last for some, their entire
lifetime. Here at Fort Campbell, many of our directors and program assistants will
talk about working with one another when “this program” or “that program” first began
and they talk about the challenges that were faced together. They have become
an extended Family for one another and are confident with the knowledge that they
can depend upon one another should the need arise.
Another amazing fact is that there are many families that have made CYSS a Family
Affair. Within our staff we have 25 families of employees that are either siblings,
spouses, or parent and child relationships. Some staff have been children/youth in
our programs and have chosen CYSS as their career. These Family units help build
layers of dedication and love that is shared with other staff within our program and
with the Families we serve. There is something to be said for a program, where family
members encourage one another, to become part of their organization to work. Our
program is strengthened by Families who work together to help keep Fort Campbell
CYSS one of the best CYSS programs!
In this time where rotating deployment cycles are considered the “new normal”, We
serve Families. We want our parents to know the true commitment this staff has for
the most precious resource: “our children.” Several of our staff are spouses of active
duty soldiers, retired military family members or they are children of active or retired
soldiers. Our staff show their dedication to excellence by the large numbers who
have earned high level degrees or credentials and many are still actively pursuing
their higher education. Of the 174 surveys returned, we determine that there are 1
Masters degrees, 12 BA.BS degrees, 9 AA.AS, 29 CDA’s 18 other certifications, licenses.
Parents can leave their child/youth knowing that there is a caring, and well
trained person who has the willingness to provide the best possible service to each
family. CYSS is family taking care of family.. After all, “It’s a Family Affair”
In the next issue we will highlight some of the staff from the surveys. Please look forward
to learning more about this unique CYSS family.
OPERATION HOMEFRONT KENTUCKY
Operation Homefront admires and values the service
and sacrifice of all military families. Though it
is our sincere desire to assist every family with
every need, we are simply unable to accommodate
all requests for assistance. At times, depending
on the extenuating circumstances, exceptions
may be made on a case by case basis through a
granting committee process. Our programs are
primarily designed to assist military families (E-1
to E-6) as they struggle with deployment or
injury recovery although select programs are
open to all military families regardless of their
deployment or injury status.
Family Child Care
Many Family Child Care provider's provide respite
and reduced hourly care during normal duty day and
during extended hours as well. I had the opportunity
to visit one of our extended care provider's during
the evening and took some pictures of the children
as they love to be "hams" when the camera is
out! Some were already in their pajama's for the
evening! The children enjoyed taking turns taking
the photo's of one another!
