<strong>FMC</strong>’s sustainability goals are aligned with the<br />

company’s Vision 2015 plan, a strategic roadmap<br />

crafted in 2010 to broaden opportunities for<br />

our customers, shareholders and employees,<br />

as well as to strengthen our position in the<br />

global marketplace. Because we recognize our<br />

continued viability and growth as a business<br />

must deliver both shareholder value and<br />

societal value, we are focused on incorporating<br />

sustainability into our innovation, operations<br />

and business practices.<br />

In the past, <strong>FMC</strong> businesses made impressive<br />

independent strides to advance sustainability.<br />

Today, our coordinated “One <strong>FMC</strong>” approach<br />

enhances the scope and durability of our<br />

sustainability impact across the corporation.<br />

In 2012 we established implementation teams<br />

in each business, function and region, as part of<br />

our commitment to make sustainability a real<br />

and measurable component of our business<br />

companywide. We also formed an executive<br />

steering team to prioritize efforts, approve<br />

changes to key business processes and allocate<br />

resources. And ultimately all sustainability<br />

efforts are governed by the <strong>FMC</strong> Board of<br />

Directors Sustainability Committee, which<br />

provides strategic oversight.<br />

Implementing Systems for Success<br />

Within our first full year of operating with<br />

this new structure, we adjusted our processes<br />

for innovating products, evaluating vendors,<br />

interacting with stakeholders and engaging<br />

with the communities where we do business.<br />

In addition, we updated our business Code of<br />

Ethics to clarify our position on human dignity<br />

practices.<br />

The impact of these foundational adjustments<br />

has only just begun. As we enter 2013, we are<br />

becoming more efficient and more effective<br />

with our newly altered processes – which will<br />

continually be accessed and refined. And we are<br />

already evaluating the next series of processes to<br />

further integrate <strong>FMC</strong>’s sustainability principles<br />

into our business equation.<br />

Setting Meaningful Targets<br />

As we increased engagement with internal<br />

and external stakeholders over the past year,<br />

a common theme soon emerged. We heard<br />

repeated compliments on our progress and<br />

thoughtful approach, but many sought forwardfocused<br />

commitments that are tangible and<br />

measurable.<br />

Like many global corporations, <strong>FMC</strong> faces<br />

a significant challenge in standardizing and<br />

effectively forecasting non-financial performance<br />

metrics across a global network of different<br />

operations. But now, with a sustainability<br />

infrastructure in place, movement on new<br />

business process elements, and a system for<br />

the regular collection of standard non-financial<br />

information on a common basis from business<br />

operations worldwide, we are ready to make the<br />

commitments outlined in the following pages.<br />
