The IDC is a state-owned financial institution offering an extensive range of financing<br />

facilities to private sector entrepreneurs engaged in manufacturing industries in <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>.<br />

Small Business Development in <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong><br />

The United States Agency for <strong>International</strong> Development (USAID) is the U.S. Government<br />

agency responsible for development assistance. USAID assists government and nongovernment<br />

institutions in <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong> to contribute to the political, social, and economic<br />

empowerment. It has two programs that help with small business development in <strong>South</strong><br />

<strong>Africa</strong>.<br />

• The <strong>South</strong>ern <strong>Africa</strong> Trade Hub (SATH)<br />

SATH is a USAID funded grant program that seeks to increase international<br />

competitiveness, intra-regional trade and food security in the <strong>South</strong>ern <strong>Africa</strong> Development<br />

Community (SADC) region. SATH will realize this through supporting progress on the SADC<br />

regional integration agenda and increasing the trade capacity of regional value chains in<br />

selected sectors.<br />

• <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n Supplier Diversity Council (SASDC - previously <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n<br />

<strong>International</strong> Business Linkages SAIBL).<br />

SASDC is a USAID supported supplier diversity program aimed at assisting products and<br />

services from previously under-used <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n suppliers. This process helps to<br />

sustainably and progressively transform a corporation's supply chain to reflect the<br />

demographics of the society in which it operates. In <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>, it involves the process of<br />

integrating a growing pool of competitive black suppliers into corporate supply chains, using<br />

targeted procurement and enterprise development to achieve this.<br />

Enterprise Development in <strong>South</strong>ern <strong>Africa</strong><br />

The <strong>South</strong>ern <strong>Africa</strong>n Enterprise Development Fund (SAFEDF), a US$100 million<br />

USAID-sponsored project supports small-to-medium-sized enterprises throughout<br />
