WEEKLY LANE CLOSURES AND WORK ZONE ADVISORY<br />

FORT LAUDERDALE — <strong>Florida</strong>’s <strong>Turnpike</strong> announces updated lane closures and work zones due to construction and<br />

maintenance projects in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties, for the week beginning<br />

Sunday, <strong>April</strong> 21.<br />

TURNPIKE SERVICE PLAZA UPDATE<br />

WEST PALM BEACH (MILEPOST 94)<br />

The West Palm Beach Service Plaza restaurant building is closed for renovation. Motorists can still<br />

purchase food and fuel at the newly constructed convenience store.<br />

TOLL PLAZA MAINTENANCE (Various Locations and Roadways)<br />

Routine maintenance work and equipment upgrades at various toll plazas will require lane closures and shifts, and<br />

suspension of tolls at various times and dates in several lanes next week.<br />

This is a moving operation spread over the course of several days, and tolls maybe suspended in one lane at a time while<br />

the work is ongoing. If tolls are suspended, motorists should proceed with caution through the open lane. Customers will<br />

not be charged a toll during a suspension; however, once work in a lane is complete, tolls will be reinstated.<br />

Daytime closures begin at 8 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m., or until the work in each lane is complete. Nighttime work<br />

hours are 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. <strong>Lane</strong> closures will take place at the following <strong>Turnpike</strong> toll plazas:<br />

• Jupiter/Indiantown Road ramp toll plaza (Milepost 116) – Monday, <strong>April</strong> 22, through Friday, <strong>April</strong> 26<br />

• PGA Boulevard ramp toll plaza (Milepost 109) – Monday, <strong>April</strong> 22, through Friday, <strong>April</strong> 26<br />

• S.R. 710/Beeline Highway ramp toll plaza (Milepost 107) – Monday, <strong>April</strong> 22, through Friday, <strong>April</strong> 26<br />

• Lake Worth ramp toll plaza (Milepost 93) – Friday, <strong>April</strong> 26<br />

PALM BEACH COUNTY<br />

TURNPIKE ASPHALT MAINTENANCE – BOYNTON BEACH BOULEVARD (MILEPOST 86)<br />

• Southbound <strong>Turnpike</strong> exit and entrance ramps at Boynton Beach Boulevard – Closed between 9 p.m. Sunday, <strong>April</strong><br />

21, and 5 a.m. Monday, <strong>April</strong> 22.<br />

o DETOUR: Southbound <strong>Turnpike</strong> traffic should exit at Lake Worth Road (Exit 93), go west to U.S. 441 and<br />

then south to Boynton Beach Boulevard. Traffic on Boynton Beach Boulevard should head west to U.S. 441,<br />

south to Atlantic Avenue and then east to the <strong>Turnpike</strong> on-ramp.<br />

o It may be necessary to close the ramps Monday night, should weather or other conditions delay the work<br />

Sunday night.<br />

TURNPIKE MILLING AND RESURFACING – 45TH STREET (MILEPOSTS 102-104)<br />

• One of two <strong>Turnpike</strong> lanes in each direction may be closed in the vicinity of 45th Street, between mileposts 102 and<br />

104, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, <strong>April</strong> 21, through Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 25.<br />

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The $1.8 million project entails milling, resurfacing and safety upgrades on the <strong>Turnpike</strong><br />

between Milepost 102.5 and Milepost 103.7. Work also includes guardrail resetting, erosion control, pipe desilting, slope<br />

repair, bridge deck spall repairs and expansion joint replacement. It is anticipated the project will be completed in the<br />

summer of 2013.<br />

TURNPIKE BRIDGE REPLACEMENT – PGA BOULEVARD (MILEPOST 109)<br />

• One of two <strong>Turnpike</strong> lanes in each direction may be closed as needed in the vicinity of PGA Boulevard between 9<br />

p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, <strong>April</strong> 21, through Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 25.<br />

o Traffic on the <strong>Turnpike</strong>’s northbound entrance ramp from PGA Boulevard also may be stopped for a few<br />

minutes at a time between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.<br />

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The <strong>Turnpike</strong>’s PGA Boulevard ramp bridge is being replaced with a higher bridge to provide<br />

additional clearance for tall vehicles. <strong>Construction</strong> began in August 2012. It is anticipated the project will be completed in<br />

the fall of 2013. Approximate cost: $6.2 million.<br />

TURNPIKE BRIDGE REPLACEMENT & INTERCHANGE IMPROVEMENTS – INDIANTOWN ROAD (MILEPOST 116)<br />

• One of two <strong>Turnpike</strong> lanes in each direction may be closed as needed in the vicinity of Indiantown Road from 9 p.m.<br />

Monday to 5 a.m. Sunday, <strong>April</strong> 21, through Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 25.<br />

o Traffic on the <strong>Turnpike</strong>’s northbound exit ramp to Indiantown Road also may be stopped for a few minutes<br />

at a time between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m.<br />

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The <strong>Turnpike</strong>’s Indiantown Road ramp bridge is being replaced with a higher bridge to provide<br />

additional clearance for tall vehicles. It is anticipated the project will be completed in May 2013. Approximate cost: $4.7<br />

million. Work on an interchange improvements project began in <strong>April</strong> and is anticipated to continue through late fall of<br />

2013. The northbound <strong>Turnpike</strong> exit ramp to Indiantown Road will be reconstructed and an additional left-turn lane will be<br />

constructed, for traffic exiting the ramp toll plaza and headed east. Approximate cost: $1.8 million.<br />

PALM BEACH COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS PROJECTS (MILEPOSTS 73-78 and 106)<br />

• One or two <strong>Turnpike</strong> lanes in each direction will be closed at various locations from Southeast 18th Street (Milepost<br />

73) to Yamato Road (Milepost 78) from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, <strong>April</strong> 21, through Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 25, as Palm Beach<br />

County installs fiber optic cable on its bridges. At least one lane in each direction will remain open.<br />

• One of two lanes on the <strong>Turnpike</strong>’s exit ramp to S.R. 710 (Exit 107), west of the toll plaza, will remain closed 24/7<br />

through May 31 as part of a county project to extend Jog Road north to North Lake Boulevard.<br />

• All <strong>Turnpike</strong> ramps at S.R. 710 will be closed from 9 p.m. Tuesday, <strong>April</strong> 23, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, <strong>April</strong> 24.<br />

Should inclement weather interfere with the work on Tuesday night, the interchange closure will be rescheduled for<br />

Wednesday night or Thursday night, <strong>April</strong> 25.<br />

o DETOUR: Motorists should use the PGA Boulevard interchange as an alternate.<br />

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY<br />

TURNPIKE RAMP CONSTRUCTION, BRIDGE WIDENING AND ROAD RESURFACING (MILEPOSTS 9-20)<br />

• One or two southbound <strong>Turnpike</strong> lanes may be closed between Kendall Drive and Coral Reef Drive/Southwest<br />

152nd Street (Exit 16) from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, <strong>April</strong> 21, through Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 25.<br />

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Work began in October 2011 to construct a new connector ramp for southbound S.R. 874<br />

traffic headed to the southbound <strong>Turnpike</strong> and Southwest 152nd Street/Coral Reef Drive. The southbound <strong>Turnpike</strong> bridge<br />

over the CSX railroad, located north of Southwest 152nd Street, will be widened from two to three lanes and the bridge<br />

handrails will be replaced. Work also includes removing and replacing the top layer of asphalt pavement on the <strong>Turnpike</strong><br />

in the vicinity of Allapattah Road and between the Southwest 152nd Street and Kendall Drive interchanges. <strong>Construction</strong> is<br />

anticipated to continue through the summer of 2013. Approximate cost: $12.3 million.<br />

TURNPIKE INTERCHANGE IMPROVEMENTS AT NORTHWEST 12TH STREET (MILEPOST 27)<br />

• No lane closures this week.<br />

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The southbound exit ramp to Northwest 12th Street will be widened to accommodate a<br />

second right-turn lane to westbound Northwest 12th Street. Work also includes asphalt milling and resurfacing, traffic<br />

signal improvements, drainage, roadway lighting and pavement markings. <strong>Construction</strong> began in November 2012 and will<br />

be completed in the fall of 2013. Approximate cost: $547,260.<br />

GOLDEN GLADES ALL-ELECTRONIC TOLLING AND ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS<br />

• Southbound <strong>Turnpike</strong> exit to eastbound S.R. 826 – Closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for three nights, Sunday, <strong>April</strong><br />

21, through Tuesday, <strong>April</strong> 23.<br />

• Southbound <strong>Turnpike</strong> exit to westbound S.R. 826 (Palmetto Expressway) – Closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for<br />

three nights, Tuesday, <strong>April</strong> 23, through Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 25.<br />

o DETOUR: Traffic will be directed to exit at Northwest <strong>19</strong>9th Street (Exit 2X), go west to Northwest 27th<br />

Avenue and then south to eastbound or westbound S.R. 826.<br />

• One or two <strong>Turnpike</strong> lanes in each direction will be closed in the vicinity of the Golden Glades toll plaza between 9<br />

p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, <strong>April</strong> 21, through Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 25.<br />

• One or two lanes in each direction will be closed on <strong>Florida</strong>’s <strong>Turnpike</strong>, north and south of Hollywood Boulevard (in<br />

Broward County), between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, <strong>April</strong> 21, through Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 25.<br />

• One of two northbound lanes will be closed on <strong>Florida</strong>’s <strong>Turnpike</strong> from the <strong>Turnpike</strong> Extension connector at Milepost<br />

47 to south of Hollywood Boulevard at Milepost 49 (in Broward County), from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, <strong>April</strong> 21,<br />

through Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 25.<br />

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: An all-electronic tolling gantry will be constructed to replace the <strong>Turnpike</strong>’s Golden Glades toll<br />

plaza. In addition, a new SunPass-only ramp will be constructed at the Hollywood/Pines Boulevard interchange and the<br />

connector ramp from the <strong>Turnpike</strong>’s Homestead Extension to the northbound <strong>Turnpike</strong> will be widened. Approximate cost:<br />

$<strong>19</strong>.9 million.<br />

BROWARD COUNTY<br />

I-595 EXPRESS CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (MILEPOSTS 53-55)<br />

Currently, <strong>Florida</strong>’s <strong>Turnpike</strong> is under construction from Peters Road (Milepost 55) to Griffin Road (Exit 53) as part of the<br />

I-595 Express Corridor Improvement Project. Click on the following link for information about project-related upcoming lane<br />

• No lane closures this week.<br />

SAWGRASS EXPRESSWAY AND TURNPIKE SIGN REPLACEMENT<br />

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A total of 20 sign structures and signs will be constructed on <strong>Florida</strong>’s <strong>Turnpike</strong> in the vicinity<br />

of Red Road and at various locations on the Sawgrass Expressway. <strong>Construction</strong> began in August 2012 and is scheduled<br />

for completion in the summer of 2013. Approximate cost: $1.2 million.<br />
