Nebraska State Auxiliary
Editor: Cris Henry Number 8, Volume XLIXIIII February 2012
I want to start this letter with an apology to the Wayne Auxiliary for the blip in last month’s
newsletter. The whole paragraph was dropped about my visit to Wayne. Here is that paragraph.
The 10th of December found Patty, Barb and I in Wayne for their Christmas party.
There was pot luck, desserts, Santa Claus and so much fun. This is for the whole family.
You can sit on Santa's lap and have your picture taken. Individual pictures as well as family
pictures were taken that evening. The children had so much fun watching and waiting for
Santa to arrive. Thank you Cec and Wayne Auxiliary for a fun evening! The 11th was the
institution of the new Aerie in Grand Island. I was unable to attend. Congratulations to the
Heartland Aerie. We are looking forward to instituting the new Auxiliary in the near future.
On December 21st I attended Lincoln #147's meeting and Christmas party. What fun I
had. I have received some very unique lady bug things, but these were special. Lady bug
masks that glow in the dark, and the cutest yellow planter with lady bugs. The food was outstanding
as well as the fraternalism.
December 27th was my visit to the West Point Auxiliary meeting and belated Christmas
party. Patty W, Rhonda M and Barb W met me there and what fun we had. We played
bingo and I had more than one BINGO. The Auxiliary furnished some yummy snacks for us
all. I am so PROUD of the West Point Auxiliary. They are doing well and contribute a lot to
their community and the Charities.
WOW our new year started with such beautiful weather we almost forgot that it was
January. January 7th Norfolk #3611 had a benefit for one of our Jr. Eagles who was in a
rollover accident on the way to school. He sustained severely broken leg and several other
internal injuries.
February 12th Patty W and I traveled to Grand Island for another organizational meeting
for the new Heartland Auxiliary. They have all their members and officers. Thank you to all
the ladies that have worked so hard so this will happen.
January 14 was the Casual Learning Day at #154. Janis Thomas did an outstanding job of
organization and the workshops were very informative. There was also some training on the
MMS system done by Rhonda Matsen. President Elect Bill Primrose and Anita Bishop collected
$55.00 for MMI in their workshop. Thank you both for a job well done. That evening
Kelly and I met at Papillion/Southwest for pork chop dinner, desserts, fund raising, lots of picture
taking, an awful lot of fun and I even danced a little before we left. They raised $600
that evening for MMI and I can't forget the $75.00 check from the Auxiliary for MMI. Thank
you Southwest.
Tuesday, January 17th was my visit to Bellevue's Auxiliary meeting and potluck. The
evening was very nice and the Bellevue women are very generous and boy do they have
fun. Thank you for the $500 donation to MMI and my ladybug music box is very special. I
will treasure it forever.
The Nebraska Aerie and Auxiliary Officers met on the 21st in Kearney for our board meeting
and on that evening I went to York for their Wild Game Feed as Kelly and my official visit.
Due to some unfortunate events there was not a bus trip to Minnesota to gamble on the
27th. Thank you to those that signed up. I am sure there will be another opportunity in the
future.
I have had some questions about who to contact if they wish to visit MMI. Our contact is
through the University of Nebraska Foundation and her name is Melonie Welsh. Her phone
number is 402-502-4117 and e-mail address is mwelsh@nufoundation.org. She is very helpful
and I know she will be glad to help anyone that calls her.
February becomes increasingly busy. February 11th Fremont will be celebrating their 110th
Anniversary, February 17th Kelly and I visit Central City, February 18th is my day in Norfolk
and on February 25th we are hoping to institute the new Heartland Auxiliary #4539. March,
April and May are now completely filled with visits.
If I have not made a visit to your Auxiliary, please call and I will find a date to come visit.
You can always leave a message on my home phone of 402-371-6425; my cell is 402-841-
8713 or send an e-mail to bsueonlogan@hotmail.com.
Until next month remember "They say it takes a minute to find a special person an hour to
appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them.
DRC Matching Campaign Exceeds Goal
Throughout November and December, donations to The
Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center were to
be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $55,000 thanks to the
generosity of an anonymous donor.
In that time, Eagles around the United States and Canada
rallied to raise $264,312.72 for the cause in addition to the
$55,000 matched donation for a total of $319,312.72. This
tremendous effort exceeds last year's total of $166,750.32.
Many of you went above and beyond the call of duty to help
exemplify the spirit of "People Helping People." For that, we
cannot thank you enough.
Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) - Autism
Page 3
Meet Trinity and Roy. Omaha experts are breaking
through the barriers of autism. They're finding, in
some cases, if autism is detected early enough in
life, there are more opportunities to improve how a
child connects with the world. Both of Brooke's
children have autism, and even though siblings
have very different personalities, they share the
same challenge. Trinity showed signs of the brain
disorder at age two. "I didn't know if we were ever
going to talk," Brooke said. Trinity stopped eating,
wouldn't allow touching and couldn't play. So she
started therapy at the University of Nebraska
Medical Center's Munroe-Meyer Institute. "If we can
get in there while the brain is still forming synapses
in the early stages, we have the best chances of
helping these kids," said Dr. Lois Starr, pediatrician
and genetics expert at UNMC. Roy is in the early
stages of therapy, and 5-year old Trinity is completely
caught up milestone-wise, reading at a secondgrade
level. Both doctors and parents of autistic
children said it's important to talk with a pediatrician
if your child is not meeting developmental milestones.
Caring for children with autism is more
than just a job to the staff at Munroe-Meyer. The
team of experts is committed to unlocking the full
potential of each child.
HALL OF FAME AWARD
Yes, Sisters, it is almost time to send your letters in for the Hall of Fame Awards.
As you know there is an award presented at State Convention for a deceased member and one for a living member. These are
ladies who have served or are serving your Auxiliary by doing all that they can to help. Let us recognize them by writing your letter
of support.
Please send your letters by April 15, 2012, so that the committee will have time to read all the letters and make their decision.
We know that there are a lot of deserving ladies, so get your letters in soon.
Thank you,
MINK Eagle Sisters:
This is my annual plea for your help and participation in this year's MINK Ritual Competition! Last year's response was
overwhelming and much appreciated for all your assistance and cooperation. The MINK Conference will be held on April 13, 14,
and 15 th. Again the Ritual Competition will be held on Friday, the 13 th. This will enable the participants and judges to attend the
Conference meetings on the next 2 days.
Some changes in the judging will be implemented, as there were some "oops" last year. Still open to suggestions to improve our
efficiency; will listen to all helpful hints.
5 or 6 judges are needed from each State, that way no one has to stay all the time and breaks can be offered. Send your name,
state, phone number, email address, include the time or approximate time for your arrival to St Joe, which is definitely important for
scheduling. Let me know if you prefer to judge or work on the Master Books. Be sure to get your information to me before March
15 th. If you have already given me your name at some time, please, email or send your complete info to my address or email listed
below.
March 15 th is also the deadline for all Ritual Teams and Shotgun competitors to send their Registration form and money to me.
Note: All Ritual Participants need to be registered for the Conference, according to the MINK By-laws.
Ritual Registration forms are available on the MINK Web site, www.mink.foe.com. Check this site frequently to see all the updates
and information going on with MINK and the upcoming Conference.
As our Eagle Auxiliary Ritual is unique to only us and tells what we believe in and live by, your help is necessary to perpetuate
its presentation. God bless You!
Sincerely,
Each box is labeled -- one says "apples," one says "oranges,"
and one says "apples and oranges." However, it is known that
none of the boxes are labeled correctly. How can you label the
boxes correctly if you are only allowed to look at only one
piece of fruit out of just one of the boxes?
Joining Made Simple
The Grand Aerie Membership Department has created a new tool on our
website to increase membership at local Aeries and Auxiliaries. Non-members
who visit foe.com can now click on the "Become A Member" tab and
fill out a brief form. Once submitted, the form is sent to the Membership
Department where Grand Aerie staff will contact prospective members to
help answer any questions they have regarding the F.O.E. and help them
get in contact with an Aerie or Auxiliary in their community.
Many have already taken advantage of this new service and we encourage
current members to reach out to family, friends, neighbors and co-workers
with this quick, simple method in taking the first step toward joining the
Eagles.
ROSES ARE RED, VIOLETS ARE BLUE
HAVE YOU SIGNED UP A SISTER OR TWO??
Happy Valentine’s Day Sisters,
As many shades of reds there are out there, so is true of love. Love of family, of friends
a beloved pet, love of God, love for mankind, and all that is created. We all need companionship
and friendship, to flourish. Remember what it feels like to get a big warm fuzzy hug, to put a smile
on the face, and feel alive and rejuvenated??
This sisters is what our Auxiliary needs, a big warm fuzzy hug and rejuvenation!!! Whether
it is a re-blooming sister or a new bloom in the bouquet of our Auxiliary; we all need to work
together to achieve this goal. Take a moment to reflect, to think of all the wonderful women you
know and how they have made a positive impact in your life. Are they members? Have you invited
them to your Club to participate in an event, or to become a fellow sister? Better yet, think of
the positive impact that you can make on a new member by sharing the Eagle opportunity.
We only have a few more months nd I know we can do it. I challenge you to fill your
bouquets, and share the hugs; but most of all I look forward to seeing who has signed up those
members and the opportunity to meet them. Sending all my sisters a big, warm, fuzzy hug, and
hope to see you all down the Eagle trail soon.
