fast. Don't forget our Holiday
Elf Program as you begin your
shopping. If you are wondering
what you can do for your child's
teachers this Holiday Season, you
can join us by donating a gift
card (or two or three) from one
of your favorite places (in denominations
of $5-20). We will
collect them in the front office
until Friday, December 14th, and
then we will gift them to all of
Wester's teachers and staff before
Winter break.
We had great success last year
and every teacher and staff member
received a couple of gift
cards. Please help make this season
as joyful.

Here at Wester we are so excited about our new Olweus Bully Prevention Program that we are offering
t-shirts for all the students to purchase. Our mission here at Wester is for all students to take a stand
against bulling behavior.
Click HERE for an order form for the Olweus T-Shirt that you may purchase and wear to support
our Owleus program. The shirt will cost $12.65 and needs to be ordered no later than December 16th.

Veterans Day
Wester hosted 25 veterans for lunch on
November 12th. Our guests spanned WW II
Veteran Sergeant Leonard Cain to Austin King
who just returned home on November 8 th from
Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Thank you to our Veterans,
teachers, and the PTO for
making this event possible.
Academic Pentathlon?
We are looking to fill spots for Wester’s 7 th Grade & 8 th Grade Teams. Please join us
on Tuesdays for our weekly study sessions if you are interested in participating.
Come find out how you will exercise your brain and learn about The History of Russia
and read the classic novel Animal Farm by George Orwell while enjoying a snack!

These GENEROUS Wester students each donated
$20 or more to our Wester Middle School Angel
Tree Project. Our student council committed to
raise $1200, but with the giving spirit of our students
and staff over $1600 was raised to support
the Frisco Family Services and help local teenagers
have a happy holiday season. Thank you to everyone
who donated and became an Angel by buying
an Angel this year!

ART SMART
The Art 1 classes have had a series of different tessellation activities and have progressed quite
nicely. They worked on Escher tessellations and painted them. These are on display currently.
Then they made radial kaleidoscopic reliefs and are now finishing the initial mirror patterns.
Both of those projects were colored and shaded in prismacolors. They enjoyed these and
should be able to reproduce these projects at home for you over the holidays if you want to make
“crafty holiday decorations” using these ideas. Always on the lookout for fun things to do with
the children!
Book cover designs for the Shustermania “Cover Up” poster contest have begun and perhaps we
will discover some future designers in our midst! Be on the lookout in mid-December for the winners
as voted on by the students!

Education and Training
The CTE Center (Career and Technical Education Center) would like to invite you to attend the next HUB event at CTE Center.
This HUB will focus on Business – Finance – Website Design – Marketing – Education & Training - Hospitality & Tourism
(Culinary Arts).
The HUB is a time to come and find out about courses available for students to take focusing in on possible careers in these
areas. Here from the instructors in the area, meet some of our students, see the curriculum, and maybe even meet a professional
from that career area to tell you what your next steps should be after high school!
The program will start promptly at 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 6th and end at 8:00 pm. By parent request we are setting
this program up so you may attend two of the presentations. Each presentation will last 20 minutes. I am sorry but at this
event we will not be offering a tour of the CTEC.
Other HUBs will be offered during the year as well as Evening Guided Tours of the center. Please watch your email for information
or check out the CTE Center website (Counselor Corner) for dates and times. It is almost time to start making those 4year
graduation plans! Here is a time/place to start getting ideas.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Our counselors, Michelle Ott and Julie Lewis, will be providing classroom guidance to our students this month
on “Healthy Relationships for Pre-Teens and Teens”. The goal of this guidance lesson is to educate students on
how to avoid potentially dangerous situations and to help students have an increased respect for themselves and
others. The content is interactive to maintain the students’ attention and is carefully structured to inform, not
frighten. The curriculum is organized in levels that are appropriate for 6 th , 7 th , and 8 th grades respectively, so that
the presentation at each grade level builds upon the information given in the previous grade. An informative
power point about the healthy relationships presentation is on the Wester website.
The guidance lesson will be provided by the counselors on the dates listed below:
Sixth grade: December 3 rd and 4 th
Seventh Grade: December 5 th
Eighth Grade: December 6 th and 7 th
We want your student to know that there are many people at Wester who can help them if they feel someone is
bothering them. A problem cannot be solved if no one knows about it. Students are encouraged to seek help from
one of the adults at Wester.
Our district also provides anonymous reporting through www.ChooseToCare.com or 877-277-3812. There is
also an anonymous link for students to report on the Wester Website.
