THE INVESTMENT MANAGER<br />
<strong>Foresight</strong> <strong>Group</strong><br />
<strong>Foresight</strong> is an alternative asset manager and, together with <strong>Foresight</strong> GP, has a 26 year track record<br />
and specific expertise in <strong>VCT</strong> management and private equity. The team has over 200 years of collective<br />
investment experience and combines investors’ capital and its own hands-on expertise with the intention<br />
of creating long-term value and generating attractive returns for shareholders. The <strong>Foresight</strong> <strong>Group</strong><br />
offers both private and institutional investors access to a range of investment opportunities and a<br />
comprehensive management service in its chosen areas of specialisation.<br />
Members of the <strong>Foresight</strong> <strong>Group</strong> team take non-executive positions on the boards of investee<br />
companies where this is appropriate. <strong>Foresight</strong> <strong>Group</strong> expects to be central to decision-making in the<br />
following areas:<br />
. definition and review of strategy and its implementation<br />
. recruitment and incentivisation of key management and board members<br />
. fundraising from banks and other external sources<br />
. mergers, acquisitions and exits<br />
The <strong>Foresight</strong> <strong>Group</strong> has taken a lead or sole investor role in the majority of its <strong>VCT</strong> investments and<br />
intends to continue this approach in making future investments for the Company.<br />
The Team at <strong>Foresight</strong> <strong>Group</strong><br />
Bernard Fairman<br />
Is the chairman of the <strong>Foresight</strong> <strong>Group</strong>, studied economics at Nottingham University before joining<br />
Panmure Gordon in 1970 as an oil analyst. In 1973 he joined Edward Bates, a specialist investment<br />
bank. On leaving in 1976 he gained investment experience at various small oil and electronics<br />
companies. He joined 3i Ventures in 1981 and co-founded <strong>Foresight</strong> GP in 1984. He is a former director<br />
of <strong>Foresight</strong> 4, as well as <strong>Foresight</strong> <strong>VCT</strong> plc and <strong>Foresight</strong> 2 <strong>VCT</strong> plc.<br />
Peter English<br />
Has worked in a variety of engineering and marketing management roles in the UK and USA. His<br />
experience includes telecommunications (Nortel) and semiconductors (GEC Semiconductors). He<br />
joined 3i Ventures in 1982 and co-founded <strong>Foresight</strong> GP in 1984, where he continues to work part-time.<br />
David Hughes<br />
Joined 3i as an investment executive in 1974. While there, he qualified as a certified accountant and<br />
became a director of 3i Corporate Finance. He joined Framlington <strong>Group</strong> in 1993 to establish and<br />
manage an investment trust investing in smaller quoted companies and in 1997 was recruited by Bank<br />
Austria AG to develop its private equity activities. He joined Advent’s <strong>VCT</strong> team in September 2001 and,<br />
following <strong>Foresight</strong> GP’s acquisition of Advent Fund Managers Limited, he was appointed a partner of<br />
<strong>Foresight</strong> GP in July 2004.<br />
Donald Maclennan<br />
Joined <strong>Foresight</strong> GP as a partner in April 2001. He is a member of the Investment Committee and leads<br />
<strong>Foresight</strong> GP’s management buy-out and growth capital activity. Donald is a chartered accountant and<br />
has more than 30 years of private equity experience. He has worked with 3i, NatWest Equity Partners<br />
(now Bridgepoint Capital) and Close Ventures (now Albion Ventures).<br />
Andrew Page<br />
Studied engineering at Nottingham University before joining Unilever’s management programme in<br />
1991. He joined Ascot plc in 1996 and held a management role within a £25 million turnover chemical<br />
manufacturing subsidiary before joining 3i in August 2000. He joined Advent’s <strong>VCT</strong> team in September<br />
2003. He joined <strong>Foresight</strong> GP in July 2004 as an investment manager, following <strong>Foresight</strong> GP’s<br />
acquisition of Advent Fund Managers Limited and was appointed a partner in September 2005.<br />
