These centres of excellence will integrate the fi ve cornerstones<br />

• basic and clinical research;<br />
• innovation and advanced product development;<br />
• clinical practice and experience;<br />
• entrepreneurs or SMEs;<br />
• the marketplace in medical applications represented by<br />
hospital care systems. Sometimes it is relevant to include<br />
venture- and research-capital investors as a sixth entry<br />
in this listing. The centres of excellence formed by the<br />
collaboration in the present project will be a unique<br />
engine for European development in cancer care for the<br />
new millennium.<br />
