The follow<strong>in</strong>g is a list of future power projects to be undertaken by the Water and Electricity<br />

Company (WEC) <strong>in</strong> <strong>Saudi</strong> <strong>Arabia</strong> by 2009-2014:<br />

• Shuqaiq, Phase II — $2.5 billion BOO project to produce 850 MW of electricity and 212<br />

million cubic meters of desal<strong>in</strong>ated water per day. Shuqaiq II will be modeled after the<br />

Shuaiba III IWPP project, with similar guarantees and a 20-year power and water<br />

purchase agreement (PWPA).<br />

• Ras Az-Zour — $2.4 billion project to produce 2,500 MW of power and 176 million<br />

gallons of desal<strong>in</strong>ated water per day.<br />

• Jubail, Phase II — The project will produce 1,100 MW of electricity and 25,000 gallons of<br />

desal<strong>in</strong>ated water per day.<br />

Ma’aden<br />

<strong>Saudi</strong> <strong>Arabia</strong>n M<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Co. (Maaden), SEC and SWCC are plann<strong>in</strong>g to build jo<strong>in</strong>t plants <strong>in</strong> Ras<br />

Az-Zour. The co-generation plant will have power capacity of 1600 MW and 10,000 cubic<br />

meters a day of desal<strong>in</strong>ated water, us<strong>in</strong>g multi-effect distillation (MED) technology. Ma’aden is<br />

also plann<strong>in</strong>g a separate, larger co-generation facility for its multi-billion-dollar alum<strong>in</strong>um ref<strong>in</strong>ery<br />

and smelter complex, also located at Ras Az-Zour.<br />
