• • • • • 8 MASTER PLAN ANNUAL UPDATE fort Pierce/Port st. lucie service Plaza located at milepost 144 in st. lucie county fort drum service Plaza located at milepost 184 in okeechobee county canoe creek service Plaza located at milepost 229 in osceola county turkey lake service Plaza located at milepost 263 in orange county okahumpka service Plaza located at milepost 299 in sumter county these service plazas receive an average of 34,000 vehicles each day and provide the following customer services: food, fuel, restrooms, gift shops, atms, pet curbing areas, and traveler information. In 2009, the turnpike awarded a concession contract to areas Usa. they will make extensive improvements at the services plazas and manage their operation for 30 years. among the improvements will be renovations or replacements for plaza buildings, upgrades for fueling facilities, addition of convenience store type amenities, enhanced bus and truck parking, and more. the schedules for implementing the construction of the new and renovated facilities have been staggered so that all of the service plazas will not be under construction at the same time and turnpike customers will still be able to utilize the service plazas. 426079-1 Implement three lakes dedicated lane conversion in osceola county. This is an efficiency project to convert cash lanes to dedicated sunPass use on the northbound and southbound toll plazas on the turnpike mainline/s.r. 91 at the three lakes Plaza. the scope of this project includes the installation of toll equipment, sign enhancement, pavement markings, installation of guardrails, and modifications to the toll islands. Implementation of this project provides a customer service improvement to sunPass users, reduces congestion at the toll plazas, and encourages sunPass participation. this project is scheduled for construction in fY 2013. 426155-1 Improvements will be made to the interior of the service plaza buildings. Implement southbound Interchange Improvements on the heft at s.r. 874 in miamidade county. This is an efficiency project to modify the HEFT/S.R. 874 Interchange in the following manner: (1) split the southbound s.r. 874 ramp to southbound heft so that one of the three ramp lanes exits to the right, crosses under the heft bridge over the csx rail
line, and merges into the right side of the southbound heft mainline; (2) narrow the existing three-lane ramp that enters the southbound heft to two-lanes in order to maintain lane balance with the southbound heft mainline roadway; and (3) widen the southbound heft mainline (including the bridge over the csx railroad) to add one-lane and eliminate the existing southbound lane drop. Implementation of this project will improve safety and operations by eliminating the southbound s.r. 874 traffic weave across southbound HEFT lanes to exit at sW 152nd street. It will also result in smoother southbound traffic flows on the HEFT Mainline south of s.r. 874, and provide a southbound heft mainline capacity improvement that was deferred by the postponement of the larger widening project. this project is scheduled for construction in fY 2011. 427146-1 construct auxiliary lanes on the heft from kendall drive to bird road in miami-dade county. This is an efficiency project to construct auxiliary lanes in both directions on the heft/s.r. 821 between the kendall drive Interchange and the bird road Interchange to create an eight-lane roadway section. This improvement modifies the existing bridge structures within the project limits by reducing the inside/outside shoulders to allow for four, 12-foot travel lanes with eight-foot shoulders. this is a safety and operational improvement that will eliminate or reduce the bottleneck for the existing six-lane segment between kendall drive and bird road. It will also eliminate congestion for the northbound on-ramp merge on the heft at kendall drive, and improve operations for entry and exit movements at kendall drive. this project is programmed for construction in fY 2014. 427685-1 construct auxiliary lanes on the heft from nW 74th street to nW 106th street in miami-dade county. This is an efficiency project to construct auxiliary lanes in both directions on the heft between nW 74th street and nW 106th street to create an eightlane section on the heft. the implementation of this FY 2011 - FY 2035 improvement will reduce the potential for bottlenecks in this section. It will also eliminate congestion in the southbound on-ramp merge area at nW 106th street and will improve operations for entry and exit movements at nW 106th street. this project is programmed for construction in fY 2013. 427689-1 modify the heft at the kendall drive ramp Interchange in miami-dade county. This is an efficiency project to implement the following modifications to the HEFT/Kendall Drive Interchange: (1) widen the ramp terminal intersection approach of the southbound exit ramp to provide three southbound left-turn lanes for the southbound to eastbound movement and three right-turn lanes for the southbound to westbound movement, (2) widen the ramp terminal intersection approach of the northbound exit ramp to provide two left-turn lanes for the northbound to westbound movement and two right-turn lanes for the northbound to eastbound movement, (3) remove the slope protection under the heft bridge over kendall drive on the north side and relocate the westbound to southbound entry ramp to be located behind the column line, and (4) widen kendall drive westbound to four through lanes from west of mills drive to meet the existing four-lane section west of the heft southbound exit ramp intersection. this project is programmed for construction in fY 2014. 427690-1 Implement to/from south ramp Modifications on the Seminole expressway at aloma avenue in seminole county. This is an efficiency project to improve the to/from south ramps on the seminole expressway/s.r. 417 at Aloma Avenue. Specifically, this project includes the following: (1) add a right-turn lane for the northbound off-ramp approach to aloma avenue; (2) provide extended storage on aloma avenue for the eastbound and westbound left-turn lanes entering the seminole expressway; (3) add a rightturn lane on aloma avenue for the eastbound to southbound movement entering the seminole 9
