Since job duties and<br />

responsibilities of dispatchers<br />

vary by transit system, each<br />

employer must decide whether the<br />

agencies’ dispatcher performs any<br />

functions that would pose a<br />

substantial immediate threat to<br />

public safety if impaired by drugs<br />

or alcohol. If the employer<br />

decides there is no threat, the<br />

dispatcher should be excluded. If<br />

the employer determines the<br />

dispatcher could impact public<br />

safety, those individuals should<br />

be included.<br />

• Maintaining revenue service<br />

vehicles or equipment used in<br />

revenue service including repairs,<br />

component overhaul, and<br />

rebuilding.<br />

The rule requires that all<br />

maintenance contractors who<br />

stand in the shoes of an urbanized<br />

system serving a population of<br />

200,000 or more to perform<br />

engine repair, revenue service<br />
