SaFetY anD health<br />

MSC Group places great importance on the safety and health of<br />

our workforce. We instill a culture of continuous improvement<br />

in our health and safety policies through active management,<br />

monitoring and compliance with all safety and regulatory<br />

standards. As part of our effort to increase awareness of safety<br />

and environmental practices at the workplace, regular trainings<br />

were provided to staff as well as subcontract employees.<br />

At PT Koba, besides complying with Indonesian safety laws<br />

and regulations, the operational activities also conform to the<br />

requirements of OHSAS:18001. Some of the occupational<br />

safety and health programmes undertaken by PT Koba during<br />

the year were:<br />

• talks, campaigns, inspections and meetings on safety and<br />

health;<br />

• competency assessment for operational supervisory of<br />

employees and contractors;<br />

• training on fire fighting and maintenance of fire-fighting<br />

equipment;<br />

• investigation on mine accidents, property damages and<br />

fire incidents so as to avoid recurrence of similar accidents<br />

in the future;<br />

• training for operators of heavy machineries;<br />

• participation in safety and health programmes conducted<br />

by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources;<br />

• replacement of faulty personal protective equipment;<br />

• installation of safety banners and signages at various<br />

potential hazardous areas;<br />

• measuring and monitoring of noise, lightings and climate<br />

at work place; and<br />

• joint safety inspections with mine inspectors from<br />

ESDM and local mines inspectors from the Province and<br />

Regencies of Bangka Tengah and Bangka Selatan.<br />

For the year under review, PT Koba was recognized<br />

for its superior safety performance and<br />

received the Bronze award for Mine<br />

Safety from the Directorate<br />

General of Mineral and Coal<br />

(ESDM) of Indonesia.<br />
